I haven't seen any of films but I did just see "The Room" at our local $4 theater last night. I was awed by 5 year old (or 8 in real life) Jacob Trembly - he's going to be a huge star! He was amazing! Brie Larson's performance was one of the best I've seen in a long time - if the other nominees are that good - then I have to see their performances.

I have to say I was a big fan of Fashion Police with Joan Rivers - without her, it's not the same. Joan had a cutting yet kind sense of humor that was so razor sharp and had so many levels. But I do totally appreciate where you're coming from. With all this Social Media, I have a better understanding of putting yourself out there - it's tough.....Thank you for your positive energy!

Oh, yours are lovely thoughts, because they are so human and kind, like many of the films nominated and their subject matter.

I agree with many of your sentiments about those films I did see and on those films and actors passed over for reasons I don't understand.

I await your post-Oscars coverage. Have fun tonight.

Charlotte Rampling and Olivia Munn were my faves tonight!

Due to a power outage, we missed the first two hours of the broadcast.

Ok: Cate Blanchett and Sofia Vergara (sp?) because they gave me big frou and big skirts.

Honorable mention to Daisy Ridley because she had sparkle and was so pretty... but next year I want to see an overwhelming dress, hehe

ETA: Honourable mention to Brie Larson for her big train ...but next year, we need to be talking feathers, hehehe

Oliva Munn took my breath away beautiful

I liked the simplicity of Brie Larson's look and the gown she wore.

My favourite gown involved a tie between Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett.

My favorite was

Julianne Moore in Chanel!

I just looked at the pictures this morning of the gowns. I loved Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett and a few others. I always like Cate B.

Angie you picked best picture!
I've only seen Bridge of Spies, Martian, Inside Out so you're right I was not very invested in who won. I will try to see all of them now (once they're on video).
I watched only a bit of the red carpet and the awards, but looking through the morning galleries I have to pick Roben Roberts as my favorite (she was interviewing on the red carpet). Olivia Munn was my favorite of the actors. I noticed lots of green.

I found Room so intense as a book that I have not seen the film, but here's a thought on why the Academy ignored Jacob Trembly: perhaps his long hair in the movie made them think he was actually female...

Ooh, ouch.

I loved Chris Rock's rant about the idea that getting the Academy to acknowledge black actors might take establishing dedicated "black" categories, just as we have dedicated categories for men and women. I may or may not have delivered a similar rant to my husband just before the broadcast began.

He loves my rants. Really, he does.

Leo's acceptance speech stole the show for me. I knew he had an environmentalist side, but did not expect him to be so bold last night:

I agree that Olivia Munn was a show-stopper in that gorgeous orange gown. I also had a soft spot for Naomi Watts' slinky iridescent mermaid-esque look.

Glad Brie Larson won for Room, exceptional performances in that movie, and that simple blue gown really suited her.

Sarah Silverman and Julianne Moore really rocked the black last night -- they both looked fab.

On the men's side, Jared Leto's red piping was my favorite look.

Thanks for the musings Angie. I haven't seen any of the movies (I wish I had) and I don't usually watch the Oscars. But of course I love seeing what everyone wore so I will be looking for the recaps online. I do very much dislike when people are mean, so I avoid those negative shows too. Looking forward to your favorites list.

Chris Rock crushed it. He is consistently one of the most incisive performers I've ever seen.

I really liked Daisy Ridley's dress, and everything about Kerry Washington's outfit and styling except the material the top was made of - a bit too Batman-ish for me

I thought this was a great year for movies and saw most of the movies with nominations for best picture, best actor & actress, and best supporting actor and actress. I watched the whole show and enjoyed it immensely.
It was hard to pick winners because there were so many really good movies this year. I'm impressed that you picked best picture because I had a hard time deciding on my favorite. I'm always amazed at the quality of the top movies and look forward to January/ February when we try to see as many as we can.

Mindy Kaling looked off-the-charts gorgeous. And Naomi Watts also. (Guess I was in the mood for blue.) Men looked great, too, and I had to smile when I saw Pharrell with his rolled pants and sockless loafers, that rascal!

Caro, hugs right back!

Viv, high five.

YES, Jeanne. So happy!
