The docs arrived some minutes ago and I tried them on instantly, just over the things I was wearing. I have some questions about the way they look and how they are supposed to fit.

They are really tight and I had problems to get them on - and I'm just wearing one pair of tights and socks at the moment. I would need to wear at least one more pair of tights to even go outside with these because it's antarctic here at the moment and I don't think I would get my feet into the boots with another layer on. I have fairly wide feet, so that problem comes as no surprise. How much would they stretch?

I also don't know if I like the look of them on me or not. I feel a bit like I'm all boots and nothing else. What do you think about the height? I think it looks alright with the darker tights, but I'm not in love with them in the pictures with the grey tights.

#1/2 With the darker tights.
#3/4/5 With the lighter tights so you can see where these end on my legs.

I'm really not sure if they are worth keeping, the fit issues aside. I feel like they are maybe a bit too much for me, if you now what I mean.

What do you think?

I think they look fantastic on you Astrid - especially with the grey tights in 4/5. Perhaps it's because they are outside your normal comfort zone that you are feeling apprehensive about the look?

However the fit issues are of concern and I will leave that to the Docs experts. I know Kari had to get her pair stretched.

I also think they look fab on you! I think I know how you might feel about being 'all boots', but they do NOT shout out visually. Instead they add interest to an outfit. (Hope that makes some sense.)

I like them with both colors of tights, but they are more fun with the lighter tights I think you can get away with more minimal clothing in an outfit if these are the boots worn, and this outfit is perfect with the other interest being your beautiful scarf.

Hope you can get fit/stretch answers from other Docs experts!

I love the way they look on you! Can't say much about the fit, since I've never owned Doc b4, but maybe they stretch after being worn a few times? I also like the way they look with the grey tights. It doesn't look to me that they are too much for you. They actually look pretty subtle.

They LOOK GREAT on you, but I'm concerned about the fit issues. You don't want to be uncomfortable or cold. Can you try a size up?

ETA: Do you even want to experiment with these? You sound lukewarm about them...which suggests to me that you don't love them. Shoes and boots should be a (comfortable) love affair.

I really like the way they look on you! (But they are statement-y boots for sure, which is my cup of tea but may not be yours.)

I can't advise on the fit unfortunately as I have the opposite problem with Docs - my feet are swimming in them!

I echo what everyone here is saying in that they're adorable on you, they don't overwhelm any of the looks (and I do like them most with similar-colored tights, but each look here is great). This may be a look that's just intimidating at first because you're outside your comfort zone? I can't speak for the fit--I just got my docs too, and have only worn them once outdoors. But I'm wearing non-doc tall leather boots at this moment, and these have stretched out a bit so they're comfortable. Maybe Angie or others can chime in here. I really hope you keep them! They are more "you" than you realize!

OMG, I love them. They are uber fabulous on you, Astrid! I love them especially with the grey tights. Such a fun look--they really compliment your style. I don't see them as overwhelming on you at all--just the opposite, in fact. You look like you own them! Of course, you have to love them too though.

I do find that even with the zippers, I do have to work my foot in a bit. I think my feet are regular width but slightly on the wide end of that. I never wear more than one thin sock so mine feel quite roomy once on.

Selfish me is hoping you will think about them a bit before sending them back. They really do look awesome on you! You couldn't have picked a more fab color either. I want purple now too! LOL!

Thanks, Shannon. Funny that you especially like #4/5! These are really out of my comfort zone, you're right. I'm actually a rather shy and guarded person and these boots are anything but! Also the fact that you won't see anybody with my style wear these over here, they (the classic docs at least) seem to belong firmly to a certain type of style that I don't personify. The problem with the fit is that they aren't too tight on my legs where I could just loosen the laces, but rather on my feet.

Thanks, Parsley. I have some room for my toes, so the shoes are long enough. They are just too tight. I think a bigger size would be much to long for my feet.

Thanks, Jilly. I normally only keep shoes that are comfortable, but I know that you have to break in these type of boots. The question is, will they get a lot wider or not. If the leather only gets softer but doesn't give much they'll still be too tight.

Thanks, Sara. I get what you mean, but I still feel like that anyway. I think you're right about wearing simple outfits with these, but I like simple anyway so that would be alright!

I really love them so much on you, Astrid! And not as a drastic style transformation--I think they look really natural on you as you are right now. I forgot to mention that I have a somewhat wide foot. I am wearing the docs in size 9 (I forget what UK size that is), and for me the width was fine from the start, and perhaps even a little loose. (I'm planning on putting in some type of insert. The length is definitely a bit roomy, because my ideal U.S. size is 8.5.) I guess your foot is smaller, and they bring down the width in proportion with smaller sizes. My general feeling is that leather stretches to accommodate pretty well...I hope you get some feedback here from people who had similar conditions they overcame. I also really want these to work for you!

Thanks, Amy! Like I said above, I don't think sizing up would solve the problem. The SA in the store said it too, that they would get longer overall but not much wider. I would be up to experimenting with these, but you're right that I'm not in love with them right now.

Thanks, Mochi! Thy ARE out of my comfort zone, but that's not always a bad thing. I just don't know. I guess I just feel like they have to be a 100% what with the price and all. I won't buy another pair of boots soon if I keep these.

Thanks, Kelly! It's good to hear that you think I could pull these off. You're right that I had to work for getting them on my feet, but they were still really tight when I had them on. I'll definitely think about them a bit, but I'll have to look how long I could keep these.

What color are these again? They don't quite look black to me. Are they purple? I'm jealous that you can wear the shorter docs with flair...on me they would make my calves look big.

Here in the UK, some styles of DMs have had really negative associations in the past. Is that the same where you live? I wouldn't let it bother me - rather be a "brand ambassador" for the stylish, modern DM wearer about town!

I can't offer any advice about stretching & fit, sorry!

Yes, mine are purple but they're the 20-eyelet so go almost up to the knee! In your pics they are such a rich, lustrous hue. They are gorgeous. But of course, follow your heart on whether to keep them or not. At least, should you return them, you know it's because the fit is bad, and not because you didn't rock them!

Thanks, IK. I guess it depends from where you're coming from when you look at these. They are a lot of look for me, because I was happy with fading into the background only two short years ago. I don't think sizing up would work.

Thanks, DragonflyJane! Yes, I know of these negative associations and it's the same here. I don't think it would be that big of a problem because of the way I would wear them and of my look in general, but those associations are definitely there.

Kelly, I could definitely try some Oxfords as an alternative, they are less intimidating for sure.

As I thought Astrid --you are rocking these like no ones business!!!! All pics look good and they do no stand out like you are all boots--they look like they belong on you!
Of course they have to feel good in the fit but please know the look is marvelous!!!

Oh, yes, that negative Docs association. I know what you are talking about, Astrid. It's probably lesser known here but.... I wouldn't be pairing ox blood Docs with a military flight jacket and bracers, that's for sure.

But Astrid, I think these boots look GORGEOUS on you. If you opt to keep them would you consider having them stretched? That might help resolve the fit issue. To me, they do not look over the top at all, and seem to fit with what you are wearing (both outfits IMO) very naturally. I hope you keep them but ultimately if you find them uncomfortable or 'too much' for you, well, you wouldn't wear them anyway.

Oh, I LOVE these on you! I don't think they are too loud or too much of a departure. They look *great* with those skirts. If you can get them to be comfy, I definitely vote to keep. Combat boots are getting to be fairly classic/standard issue now, so I think your eye will adjust. Also keep in mind that they will break in.

I think they look amazing on you. I agree that they fit right in with your style and don't look over the top at all! I know when I first tried them on they felt awkward, but it didn't take long before I really loved them. I sent mine back because I didn't like the shade of grey, but am looking for an alternative color. Too bad they are feeling too tight. I don't know anything about how much they stretch.
