The Blogger Look from Yesterday with the "Old Folks" Sneakers :-)

I asked yesterday about trying to copy a blogger look, sans the heels and hat.

I decided to play in my closet and try a few options.

1. The obvious black bootie option, which I still feel is "heavy" on me with my blonde hair and so much black.
2. The ballet shoe option, which seems weird to me.
3. The dreaded "old folks" sneakers that are incredibly comfortable and may not make it to the return pile after all because of that fact. (though maybe I need a different color in them? would all white be any better or even worse?) I thought Angie had linked to this particular style of New Balance at one time.

Anyway, thought I'd share to see what you guys thought of the options.

I like the sneaker version the best. It looks sporty chic to me and very modern. I agree that the black bootie looks too heavy--I think you need to show some ankle to lighten it up.

Definitely think you should consider keeping those sneakers. They are a great bookend and look easier to style than white (says the owner of some difficult to style white Pumas.)

I may be odd person out, but I dont hate those sneakers, there's something that interests me about them. I definitely don't think all white would be any better. When you posted yesterday, I had the thought that slip on converse would be cute -- they have black and the nude...

Great interpretation, Texstyle. I really like the version with the black booties. It doesn't feel too heavy for me, because you have the black jacket bookending the booties.
I agree about the ballet flats.
I like it with the sneakers too (I think I'd like to see it with the jeans rolled longer). And I really like these sneakers in this colourway. It doesn't look "old folks" to me, they say on trend sporty luxe to my eye:-) This kind of pale brown (sorry, can't think of the exact colour name right now) fits right in with all the caramel and toffee colours that are fashionable right now. Plus, they are great for bookending your hair too.

I like the black bootie version. I am also surprised that I like the sneaker version a lot! I have to admit I was very skeptical about the sneakers yesterday but now that I see them on you I like them! The tan looks much more camel or golden here, which is fantastic (not orthopedic soul-sucking beige).

You did a great job with #1 and #3. I particularly like #3, and think that's my fave. But #1 is the most streamlined.

Have you tried keeping the jacket open?

kellygirl - I'm relieved that someone else likes the sneakers because I love how they feel and I actually love how they made an outfit that might normally feel out of my usual comfort zone - more "me." I much preferred the look and feel of the sneaks to the other looks.

Von- looks like you're not odd one out :-). On the other post the sneaks didn't seem to get much love but I wanted to persist and give it a go and I do actually like them.

Janet - I knew the bootie version would be most universally appealing.

Inge - thank you - I really appreciate and value your opinion - I feel like I can walk out of the house now with those super comfy sneaks and not hide my head in shame. lol.

Great options! The one with the black booties I would roll the jeans higher, to show a bit of skin(if worn with bare legs). But showing off some legs coverd up in black sheers would also lighten up the look a bit I know this form my experience as am also blonde:-).

Angie - thank you! So glad you like #3 as it's my favorite too. I did try with the jacket open too and it's great (and more comfortable) but I wanted to try and duplicate at least most of what the blogger had done just for comparison/learning purposes.

Funny, the booties look heavy to me too (maybe because I know it's still warm where you are, like it is here). I'm surprised by how much I like the sporty-luxe sneakers with this outfit! Rolling the jeans really sends the message that you're being intentionally fashionable (not nursing-home normcore). I'd prefer the jacket open as well for real life. You did a great job with this, and I hope your feet enjoy the new sneaks!

I think it may be a climate thing. I don't think the booties look heavy, but they would look heavy to me if it were warmer here.

I think you definitely, definitely, definitely need a pair of hair-bookending comfortable booties, though. With your climate and colouring, you would get far more wear from those than from black. I know if I lived where you do, I would probably want a few options in a hair bookending tone -- a super casual bootie (this is pretty easy to find in taupe and tan tones); a more refined version (surprisingly tougher to find); and probably a leopard print bootie or shoe of some kind. Leopard is brilliant with your hair colour.

I am surprised to like the light caramel sneakers. I would like it a lot more with the jacket open. And if you have a bag that echoes or includes the shoe colours, that would be even more awesome. Not an exact match, but something that picks up the tone again? Or maybe bright red, just for fun -- or emerald green.

Suz- yes, I agree that I think if it were really colder here the boots would feel more right. As it is, they feel more like I'm trying to look "tough" or something. I do have an ivory bag and a cognac bag - either of those might work. The ivory might be best to further lighten things up?

I have been searching for "my" pair of taupe/tan booties but they all seem to have a pretty high heel or no support at all - very little in between. I'm okay with up to a 2" heel. I have one pair of super casual Frye ankle boots in a taupe shade, but I never seem to wear them because they are literally heavy, not in color. I've been shopping for some taupe wedge desert style booties but none have worked out so far.

I like 1 and 3, they both are great. Ballet flats are the wrong vibe. Great, you have two ways to wear this look depending on your mood and the weather!

I'm with Angie and Kelly - I quite like this, and would wear it myself. Maybe sharpen the jeans look at bit with a cleaner and higher roll, but really, both 1 dn 3 are great! Jacket open, sneakers on, and you are ready to go!

I know - the taupe/ tan bootie thing is mysteriously difficult. The ones with wedges tend to be at least 3 inches, and that is too high. I think some of the Aquatalia styles could be worth a look? They are pricey, though. I also found another brand...that one gets mixed reviews but it also comes in leopard!

Suz - you're so sweet - thank you for these great suggestions. I'm going to try the Sam Edeman Mare Bootie because I love lace ups for sizing and they are just a bit rugged, and have a low heel, which matches my lifestyle. Since I only have *maybe* 5 cool/cold months a year here, and two pair of booties already that are in great shape, just not taupe, I really can't justify a really expensive pair unless they are absolutely perfect. Those Xcellent are really pretty shoes but the price - ouch!

Edit: I should have said too (just for others that may wonder) that I intend to wear the outfit as it is with the sneaks so I'm not getting taupe shoes just for this outfit. I just have a closet hole for comfortable taupe f/w shoes.

Do the Pettys work for you? Because those are also available in various putty, tan, cream shades and tones.

I hope the lace up ones work for you! They look a bit like a higher vamp oxford.

I know -- the prices of the Aquatalias are insane. But sometimes the 6 pm ones go way down, if you are lucky.

I'm not sure if the Pettys would work for me. I do love them on you! I've looked at them but they are similar to my other booties, which don't get as much wear. I think the lace up styles just usually fit me better and comfort is such a big thing to me.

Comfort absolutely rules with feet. It needs to work well.

I actually find the Pettys less than perfect and I wouldn't duplicate in another colour. (Mine are the snakeskin). For me, the heel is angled not quite perfectly, so although they are low, they are less comfortable than some of my higher shoes. They are decent all day shoes and don't make my feet actively unhappy, but I would not call them my most comfortable. In fact, I'd say the Okalas are more comfortable than the Pettys for me! Which is pretty weird.

I personally love the look of the sporty-lux sneakers in 3...I've seen some super chic, cute and casual styling in both the JCrew and Athleta catalogs, and that's what your outfit reminds me of. They bookend your hair perfectly too. I bought some classic light grey ones and they are so comfortable w/o looking orthotic or clunky. Like you, they are climate-perfect for me and a nice alternative to Cons for closed-toe shoe season. Also, for a comfortable bootie recommendation, I just bought some from Aldo. They have a great selection of low-heeled, comfortable, stylish ones for a good price point. With only four or so months of boot weather, they fit the budget for me too!
