I agree, in-season is a good time to purge.

I also like to review what I own in the middle of the off-season. Generally, there will be things there that don't strike me as awesome - if I've forgotten I own it, that's usually a sign I don't wear it - and I pull them out and put them aside. Then I wait until the next season to see if I miss it. If I don't, byeeee!

rachylou :: you are too funny. I felt the same way about magazines, when did they started coming out ahead of their time - in April you can buy June issue (???), etc. Crazy.

LBD :: I'm glad the thread was helpful. Happy purging

IK :: I too tend to ditch something in off-season, but that is definitely an exception.

This thread has really helped me focus my thoughts about clothes and my wardrobe planning. I have just had a major purge of clothes as I am moving to Thailand at the end of this week. I have kept a few winter clothes in storage in case I come back to visit during the winter months and I am taking mostly summer and business clothes with me.

I realise now that I will not need to buy any winter type clothes at all while I am in Thailand. I will just need some smart cover ups to wear in the air conditioned buildings.

I am aiming to lose some weight when I move there so I will use the clothes I am taking with me until I am the weight I want to be. I think I might save up to have some clothes made to measure, which would be a lovely treat.

thanks for the ideas on culling, it will help me with less storage space available!

I had to chime back in. I was so motivated by this thread when I went home yesterday I purged 18 items from my closet. I could already see those items are not working for me this season and now I have my spring/summer section full of only items I know I wear and I know I enjoy wearing. I was trying to keep those stragglers for the "just in case" moments or the "I should wear it just a little longer to get my money's worth" moments. But why do that right? Better to just wear the items I really enjoy instead. Thanks for the motivation! And if I end up falling short on clothes for the season (which I doubt I will), I can always shop for something new to add.

yes, I have tried to assess and purge out of season, and besides an item being dated or no longer my style, I find it quite hard.
Now I find myself purging on an as-worn basis, often tossing it after an uncomfortable day in the item, and when new items come in that then replace other, older items.

GG :: good luck with your move. I'm glad you got some unexpected inspiration for reducing the amount of stuff you take with you.

WOW Lisa :: 18 items - that IS impressive!

Mo :: spot on. It is only the dated items, or those that no longer fit my style, which I feel comfortable to purge off season.
