The AT tapered tweed pants for review by Angie and all

Here are the AT tapered brown/black wool blend tweed pants. There is a little black "tuxedo" stripe on the side, but you can't see that. This is not really a K/R as I’ve decided to keep them, but I could really use styling opinions as to what tops and footwear work vs. avoid, or other suggestions. Of course if you think they’re just awful…I haven’t cut the tags yet! Trying to show that they are, unexpectedly, full-length on me..

I plan on keeping because I like them as something different from my other pants, I have at least some tops & footwear that could work, and I got a sale price in-season—hopefully not just sales-goggles, but meaning that I can wear them right now & through the winter, and then if next fall I’m so over this look, (or they don't hold up), I would have had fun for reasonable cost.

Here are a few possible tops:

--with the most tunic-like top I have—silk BR print

--with my dear Loft sweater—too late in season for it, but showing for possible silhouette--could try something boxy, & longer

--with a longish knit top, sized up--standing sideways to show the pants length.

--with a short-ish but fluid cardi—is this still too “skimpy” looking? I love it for the fall colors. but it is not really “loose over fitted”.

The photos are dark, but I think I’ve got 3 different shoes shown—bronze oxfords, heeled slipper shoe, black patent brogue. I can also try my Born shooties. The pants are too bulky to tuck into anything I have or am likely to get right now, so mostly would wear them scrunched over whatever footwear.

Due to the type of fit, these are not for tucking or semi-tucking, so is more about how much volume and length for wearing "out" ; the more leeway there, the more things I can wear with them, but I don't need to wear combinations that don't look right.

What do you think? Head in which direction, top-wise? I do not have a real oversized sweater at this time that goes with these, but if I found one that worked with these plus other bottoms, would consider adding that.

Great trousers, and they go with a lot of your tops already. I love them with the oxfords. Also, I'm imagining them with a chunky, cropped cream fisherman's sweater like the one Janet just posted!

The pants look good and it sounds as if you like the feel of them. I think all these tops work with them and I especially like them with the oxfords. How do they feel with your lab coat?

Thanks, clearlyclaire. I will try some other tops as well. If I can be a bit nit-picky about definitions, I don't see Janet's sweater as a cropped style--it actually comes almost to low hip. These pants ride low and I can't wear what I'd call cropped with them. So I tend to think in terms of cut, as whether to be boxy-straight and not very banded, and fabric thickness or drapeyness, whether it collapses in or hangs more stiffly, that kind of thing.

Suz, I think coat is fine, so thinking of the basic outfit as 3 pieces that ought to work well together, meaning, getting a decent proportion of top with the pants; and doing something as modern as I can with the footwear that still gets me through a workday.

These pants look really great on you. Are they the "side-striped straight leg pants"?

sarah, these are "tweed slim ankle pant". If I'd just been looking online I'd never have tried them because they look short. I came across them in the store, noticed the wooly fabric and then held them up and saw that they were longer than usual ankle pants and gave them a whirl.

I notice that the regular size is the inseam I need to have it not be ankle. Yeah! Now I just don't know whether to size down or not - did you find them TTS?

We benefit sometimes from these ankle lengths.

Sometimes it doesn't work -- I think that was the case for me with those Theory ankle pants. They were full length on me, but the cut looked off.

And other times, it works. I have also had some luck at At with "ankle pants" that looked more or less full length on me. (And with booties passed for that). I do the same with J Crew toothpick jeans -- size up, slouch down, and they are pretty much full length.

I sized up. I usually wear a 4 in AT curvy trousers and I got a 6 in these so would not be so body-con in the hip and thigh, though of course it means the waist is bigger. Still, I usually can't wear anything called slim or straight at AT (or anywhere!), so these must be more curvy, somehow.

FWIW, in the photos I'm actually wearing a belt underneath, to cinch them a bit and keep them up to where I really intend to wear them, to give the shortest length look that is likely.

The pants look great. I like them with all the tops. Why is semi-tucking not an option? I see no bulkiness even with a belt underneath.

Hi, carambola, thanks. I like your question. because I should re-evaluate the idea. I've opted out of semi-tucking for work as I think it is too casual a vibe or message, for me. Then, I thought these pants are too low-rise and fitted for it to be flatteriing in general, even for casual wear,but I could be wrong there, with the right belt and top, that is easy enough to experient there, and could be fun--no pain, no gain!
