Tell us if you have a "goofball" side and how it shows up in your wardrobe

I most definitely do have this side, and it most definitely shows up in my outfits.

Some of this for me is making fun of my own physical limitations.

Some of it is just me amusing myself when I order an item online. Like I will check the "this item is a gift" box when it's really for myself and the gift message will be TO APRIL, LOVE APRIL.

Here's an example. Photo #1 is me yesterday, dressed like Elizabeth Holmes or Karl Lagerfeld. Photo #2 is me honoring the final day of Coachella.

In this life, have to be able to laugh, I feel.

P.S. Comment by Mr. April: "I hate what that headband does to your hair." Really, sir? (See photo 3 - are you saying no one actually tries to look like Larry Fine?)

Ok. Coachella Tribute wins!

My brother got me this kind of hat (below) one year. He’ll say, Hey! Where’s the Bear Hat?! You need to wear the Bear Hat!

And I do. Lol We do a lot of wacky hats at Christmastime. Things bought at CVS…

My mani’s have definitely taken a turn for the whimsical! I usually pick 3 different colours and have them applied randomly. (Just had an Easter egg pastel mani replaced by lavender, pink, and navy nails.) I commemorate holidays (green for St. Patrick’s day, snowman pin and real holly for winter/Christmas, etc.) and am already considering my Canada Day (July 1st) outfit. I’d like a good/ironic shirt, like my old sweater that said RELAX. I’m considering a sweatshirt that says VINTAGE!

I quite like the Lagerfeld look.

I have a goofball side for sure, but it does not show up in my style. Maybe in pajamas or the occasional graphic tee, and that’s about it. I’m just not drawn to whimsy in my dressing. My sense of humor manifests itself in other ways!

To answer your question, my outfits are generally playful. I wore tulle and shocking pink out to casual dinner in a friend's home last night. We are meeting a friends new puppy with Sam and Jo tonight, and I'll wear white jeans! I laugh a lot, and have a loud presence. Tempers the crying I can do all day when I think of the state of the world. My style and wardrobe are just about the only thing I don't stress about

Now that I am hanging with the cool art school kids from Brooklyn, gotta fly my goofball flag, right?

But this was not always the case, not by any means. After all, I first came to YLF to find out how to dress "correctly" for my job as a school psychologist -- not a job where you can look like a goofball, like, ever.

And Janet, I feel the same about whimsy in my clothing, which I think of as something different from "goofball." Bright colors, "fun" socks, whimsical silhouettes - not for me. I tend to take a serious-as-your-life palette and silhouette and add one goofball touch.

I LOVE your homage to Karl Lagerfeld and Coachella. My goofball side is definitely manifested in my personality, but on a rare occasion it appears in my outfits in the form of a graphic tee. My latest acquisition is the slow loris listening to its slow jams on a vintage Walkman tee. How could I resist that?

The best part of this is that the whacky irreverent headband actually looks GOOD. I like the second pic so much better than the first one!

I’ve heard that I have a goofball side to my style. I think it comes out strongest in that I love a little tweak, maybe juxtaposition, maybe something else unexpected (or the absence of an expected thing, like no necklace in a neckline designed to highlight one). But I’m with you & Janet on forced “fun” or things designed to be crazy just ‘cause. I think Germans do quite a bit of that; I don’t. I’ll wear a belt with pants that have belt loops. It might have unexpected colors or pattern, but it will not wave in the wind, go around me 18 times, or have word or cartoon art on it.

I just bought this t-shirt from Uniqlo, to me it counts as goofy. I think I don’t have anything else in my wardrobe but….

Years ago, when I started wearing cropped pants, my husband thought it looked goofy. Well, I didn’t and still don’t share his opinion.

I suppose my Scottie capsule is playful like Angie mentioned, more than goofy. I have a several other things, but no pictures of them.

My roommate in college had a sweatshirt that said USA Goof Off Champ.

I don’t think so. The very word “goofball” is not one I have heard used in this country, although I know what it means. I like dressing up in costume and a bit of quirk, but don’t think that’s the same.
I like your outfits though, good to make your own fun.

I don’t think my style is very goofball and I don’t know that I would say playful either. But it can be carefree. I relate to Angie that my style and wardrobe is a happy place that I don’t worry about.

I don’t think I dress goofbally, but I’m sure my fam would disagree. I am veerrrry bold with colour, and at this stage of my life I wear what feels good to me.

As for my own style, not sure if it counts as 'goofball' but for Halloween I like wearing my 'Written & Directed by Quentin Tarantino' graphic top & pretending that I actually am (though let's be real - if I *was* in a Tarantino movie, I'd probably be the first person to die...) lol

Outside of dress up opportunities I keep my style fairly Serious (TM) though (except for my use of colour), since I also work in education. I do like items with 'subtle' whimsy though, like my rainbow earrings or map print scarf. Used to have a pair of paintbrush earrings too

I don't have much goofball in my style but perhaps this is something I need to rectify.

I do a bit of whimsy, particularly related to my cat. I have a Siamese. So I own a few Siamese themed items. My library print tee is a bit whimsical, or at least conversational.

I'm trying to think if I intentionally will dress with goofball elements, and I thought not really, although I do like and wear bold, bright colours. I do have a goofball side to my personality where I don't mind putting myself "out there." I will happily skip full-tilt with my DD down the street and not care who is looking, wear unicorn headbands, play tag, etc.

My goofball side comes out with my super heroine cape maxi cardigans and with the earrings my co-workers fondly call “The Balls”! They may not look particularly goofball to anyone who doesn’t know me, however, when I wear them, I do it because I am in costume! I am trying to channel all my inner strength to power through whatever is taking place in my day…..
