Happy Friday.
I mostly prefer to wear Bermuda shorts and casual dresses all summer, but I went looking for a pair of lighter-wash jeans for our Seattle summer months (it's chilly in the evenings even if it's warm durning the day).
I saw these RL distressed-and-patched pair and got a bad case of the wants. I *know* they're not for everyone, but they quickly became my obsession.
I was just about to drive to the mall to try them on when I realized, "Hey, I could probably make those!" I'm a quilter, and although I've never bleached denim, I'm a confident crafter, so I pulled a pair of rarely-worn, dark-wash skinnies from my closet, lopped off the wide cuff and started the distressing and bleaching process (after a dive down the DIY YouTube rabbit hole).
Photo #2 shows the unbleached cuff in the middle -- they were darker than they appear in the finds photo. I soaked them flat in a bathtub of bleach water for 2 hours.
I'm quite pleased with the finished product. They have just enough going on to make me happy, satisfied my *want* for a light-wash summer jean (and the coveted RL pair), I saved $$$ and it was a fun project. I plan to wear them with my white and striped shirts. My sister said they'd be cute for Fourth of July with a red top -- which I just may do!
Brooklyn is the quintessential Forum DIY-er and I was motivated by all her clothing makeovers to give this a try! Anyone else have items (hits or misses) to share?
