bj1111, I would not know about the designer brands but I bought an oversized puffer in 2019 and promptly sold it. Too much air around one’s body, too cold! I haven’t tried a light puffer under a wool coat but thought about it, maybe will try this year.

here's the uniqlo packable down jacket that i use. compresses "down" to nothing.

I have to wear blazer to the office any time of the year because how cold it is. So there is not much room for additional layer. And this is also limiting factor in my coat and puffer choices because they have to fit over a blazer. I did buy a fitted puffer last winter because I was partially working from home and was not wearing blazers. And when I was going to the office I was wearing wool coats, because of the pandemic I was avoiding the public transport and my husband was driving me everywhere. And wool coat was enough for quick dash from the car to the building. So it is obvious now to me how lifestyle can easily affect our style. If I was driving and my office was warmer I would probably have much more variety in my winter dressing. And I also realized that I can buy something that is strictly casual and will not get worn to the office too.

after i responded, it occurred to me that as a european, you were probably on public transit (bc-19) more than me and that informed your outerwear choices.

you do summer really well. the juicy colors you've gravitated to really sing during warm weatherl.

Hmm, sounds like you are kinda stuck with the outerwear. But are there other things about winter wear people mentioned that might make that season of wear more fun (=warmer) for you?

I live in the same city as Bijou, and second everything she says. She manages a lot nicer clothes than I do in summer though!

One of my frustrations is that I quite like fitted clothes (and I can wear them in the office in summer), but I only work 3 days a week.

The rest of the time because of the heat I pretty much wear loose dresses with no

  • collar
  • waistband
  • sleeves
  • not even too long (captures the heat under the skirt)

That is pretty style limiting!

OTOH we having our coldest winter for a while, although not cold by most standards of YLF people. I have found myself ONLY wearing turtlenecks, and do tend towards a rut of just picking clothes for warmth.
