Staticky sweater: update!

I am so in love with the soft sweater dressing that I ordered this sweater on sale. It's AMAZING, but it was staticky right of the box. My other sweaters are not like this - does anyone know why? And what would be the cure?

Wool and cashmere staticky, that's odd. I hope somebody chimes in who knows why and how to fix it.

Did you check the tag to make sure that the sweater is indeed wool and cashmere, as the web page says? All I can figure is that they added some synthetics to the mix and didn't put that online.

It is according to the tag. It is thinner but still. I am thinking of static spray but I hate that smell! Mist with water?

Maybe it's static-ky from rubbing against the packing materials to an area with low humidity. You can try taking a wire hanger and gliding the smooth long side over the sweater. Beautiful sweater!

gently rub the sweater with dryer sheets.

I think rubbing the inside of the sweater with dryer sheets or using a spray that you can make with water and a bit of fabric conditioner and gently spray.

IME if something is staticky on its own (as opposed to, say, a skirt that is staticky only when worn with tights, which is fixable by putting a layer like a slip in between) nothing will fix it. Things like hangers or dryer sheets will remove the existing static temporarily but if the item is prone to collecting static electricity, it will do so. Particularly in winter, even hair and skin get so dry that they can generate static that will transfer to those static-prone items.

So my advice is return it. Sorry.

This is why I avoid polar fleece like the plague by the way. It makes all my hair stand up and I've been known to zap people and things when wearing it.

I'm afraid I'm with Diana on this one. I had a light weight sweater a few years ago and used the "rub with dryer sheet" trick and it would work only temporarily. As the day wore on the sweater would become more staticky again.

Huh, it's weird that Vince would be staticky. Since it's Nordies and I seriously doubt Vince is using acrylic or something more notoriously static-generating, I'd try the wire hanger, dryer sheets, hairspray, hiding a safety pin, or whatever your tolerance is for the suggestions of the interweb. If it doesn't work, back it goes.

I would also call Nordie's. They have very knowledgeable staff, and someone there might have some explanation or solution.

Well oddly enough, it is not staticky today! I had folded it in my sweater drawer and when I took it out this morning it was fine. I wonder if sitting outside in super cold dry air did something. I didn't wear it because its too short for the ponte leggings but hopefully the problem solved itself!
