Hi all. It's been a while!

The last time I counted my wardrobe, in 2022, I had 84 items. That included all my scarves, belts, bags, outerwear, and footwear, as well as tops, bottoms, dresses, and toppers. Today, no longer counting scarves, belts, and bags, I have 105 items.

So…that’s a thing.

As a way of keeping tabs on myself and in touch with what’s in my closet, it’s been my tradition to post a count each August or September. I missed last year, but here’s a quick update.

Statistics:

Tops: 36 (last count: 22)
Bottoms: 10 (last count: 6)
Dresses and Jumpsuits: 20 (last count: 10)
Toppers: 21 (last count: 11)
Footwear: 15 (last count: 10)
Outerwear: 3 (last count: 3)

I still maintain a wears log and spreadsheet, so I know that about 35% of the items in my wardrobe have 30 or more wears, 40% have between 10 and 29 wears, and the remaining 25% have fewer than 10 wears. The median number of wears is 21 and the mean is 27.

Analysis and deep thoughts and such:

  • I’ve become a sort of loose uniform dresser. My bottoms are mostly either wideleg pants or jeans. Half of my 20 dresses are black. Two-thirds of my tops are black. I add interest with toppers and accessories.
  • For the most part, I’m perfectly okay dressing minimally in the summer. See my summer 2024 photo log below.
  • I’m re-adding burgundy (really, various shades of dark red, see Finds), olive (more wishful thinking than action so far), and some white to my wardrobe. Combined with mustard, rust, and caramel, this is the most color I’ve had in my closet in a long time. Despite all the black.
  • My lifestyle is in flux, and so is my wardrobe. I’m planning to spend more time traveling in the near future, which will require a more robust seasonal wardrobe than I’ve had over the past five years in California.
  • I've been buying a lot (for me) this year. Here's the whole collection of 24 items. I know it's a coping mechanism, but I guess it's pretty harmless as coping mechanisms go.
  • Most of my new shoe purchases have been coming from only three brands: Bed Stu, Birdies, and Converse. Honestly, these fit me well and cover most of my needs, so I don't really see that changing anytime soon! I quite enjoy just knowing my size and not have to futz around with experimentation and returns.

As always, I love hearing your thoughts, and I've missed you!
