I presume it was Kitchen Aid artisan based on reviews? What colour? Were the motor gears metal? Wow!

No, it was the Kitchen Aid mini in matte white and unfortunately comes with nylon gears, as does the Artisan. The metal gears are in the 6 quart models, which is wonderful and long lasting, but not ideal for single batches and small spaces. The chef said that if you plan on using it daily, go for the 6, but otherwise stick to 4 or 3.5. David Leibovitz has the 5 model, which made me think that the nylon gears won't wear out anytime soon.

I hope you enjoy your new mixer. I used a cheapo hand mixer for years and years before I got my KitchenAid. It's so much easier to make things now.

I love David Lebovitz. I have a couple of his cookbooks. I especially love The Perfect Scoop. Mmm.. ice cream!

Enjoy your mixer!

One thing I want to add: I bought both my KitchenAid stand mixers at Sam's Club. When I bought the second one (so I could give the first one to my DD), it was making some weird noise when I went to use it. I took it back to Sam's, and they opened every single box of remaining mixers so we could check and make sure the replacement they gave me was fine. It was, and still is. I very much appreciate the excellent customer service they provided that day.

I purchased a cobalt Kitchenaid artisan almost 2 years ago. I have it on my counter and use it 2 -3 times per week. I love it! It is very heavy though. I am not sure I would use it as much if it were stored. Also, my children like to use it too.
