Spiderweb scarf ? Yay or Nay?

Even though it is still summer her in Aussieland I'm starting to think about my autumn/winter capsules and this scarf has been calling to me for a while. It is 50% silk and 50% cotton and handpainted. My wardrobe neutrals are mostly greys and blues. I wear predominately cool tones.

I'm envisaging it as something I would put on as part of an outfit and wear through the day in the cooler months. We have pretty mild winters here and I would get something else for when it is really cold (or at least what we consider really cold here LOL).

I am hoping to be able to wear it to add some extra punch to my corporate work wardrobe as well as for smart casual outfits or just to elevate a jeans and boots outfit.

Thoughts? Yay or Nay?

I like that alot. It's pretty and graphically arresting. Can't wait to see what you wear with it. It looks like it'd go with alot of different types of outfits.

I'd be the spanner in the works and say nay ... it makes me think Halloween, a lot.

I also thought nay, the length and the material is alot of web. BUT, I can see it with a black leather jacket if you have that style

Hmm - pretty much a 50-50 split so far but I'm kind of with the Nay-ers. I did wonder if it was erring on the side of costume-y. Pity because it has such lovely colour

You know, even if it's costume-y a tiny bit, my thinking is that it's still a scarf. Not a dress, but an accessory. It's okay for accessories to be a little more out-there. Scarves in particular are going to be folded this way and that, and what looks garish here is probably not how it will look when you're wearing it. The colors are soft and pretty; I say have fun with it.

I love it! I agree with Mochi, that the actual pattern image will be more abstract and subtle in action when it's worn as the fabric moves and folds. I think this is an interesting and beautiful scarf.

I'm a little on the fence with this one, but I think Mochi makes an excellent point. The spiderweb might not be so obvious when the scarf is in motion. The color is subtle enough for work, yet still interesting. If it's not too expensive, I'd give it a try.

As a member of team blue I vote yay. It's a fun scarf with great colors to mix with blues and greys.

It's only be costumy it it were Spiderman colours--but then again I'd still wear it.

I'll take it! Heh. I think this is a fun and different piece - it will add some interest to your more button-down corporate wardrobe. I say go for it - I sense that you like it!

It's a fun scarf, but I don't think you can ignore the spiderweb. It's pretty literal. To use it to best effect, I think it would be best to wear, well, comic book colors - bright reds, greens, etc - and kicky sweaters, skirts, flats and boots. Like I don't think it would work with a conservative suit and trying to take the place of an abstract floral or something.
