Sorry for letting this trail, and sorry to all I have failed to call out to. Sal, Bijou, Brooklyn, Jaime, Xtabay, Bonnie, suntiger, April, Style Fan, the Cat and whoever else I have missed… Life got in the way. Then I got distracted by oxfords, first by Jessikams, (you look great so get over that imposter syndrome!) then by Lana. Fun fact: I have more oxfords than sandals! I always wear them with socks, even though the socks are sometimes invisible. Is there any other way?

It seems the look is less controversial in the forum than on the blog, which really should not surprise me.

LJP: ah yes! Mrs Prada is the queen of incorrect socks. She has been fencing some or other version of the faux pas for as long as I can remember.

lyn67, Robin, Suz et al, the project is still in its experimental stages. Not all socks are created equal in this regard, so it will take time to figure out logistics. As I discovered yesterday, this is not as simple as putting on a pair of socks under sandals, although common sense says it should be. DonnaF, sounds like this is something you could try. If the sandals are fully adjustable, it might work. Sloper: thanks for your fullsome support. I shall persevere.

I have not worn sandals with socks except in Europe in 1970 when my feet needed the warmth in Germany and Wales in July. It is a very European look to me and depends on the sandals and socks. I bought my sandals in Europe when my shoes wore out walking and mountain climbing so much. Try some sheer or lace socks.
