I just started wearing my loafers more, cause we've been having mild weather, but not sure about socks.

I wouldn't go barefoot with them, cause if it's warm enough to be sockless, I'll just wear sandals. I've been wearing nude to me knee highs with them, but they run so easily and aren't that warm. I do like the illusion of bare skin though, to make the loafers look intentional with my black ankle pants.

I wore textured black today, but they seemed a bit heavy looking and not very current. Maybe black lace or fishnet? Some other pattern? Sheer black? Charcoal? Warmer nude to me socks?

None or my regular black ones at the moment, but I am looking forward to trying some fancy ones in the warmer temperatures.

I think black sheers or patterned sheers could work. Lightweight but distinctly patterned socks could make it look really intentional.

I wore my loafers sock-less, then with nude for me and black sheers. I’m looking for thin trouser socks in solids to match some of my clothes - rust, dark green, lavender, etc. for spring.

I always wear socks with loafers. Depending on temperatures, I will wear sheers, thin cotton socks or thin wool socks. Most of my socks are solid.

When wearing non-neutral socks, I will match them to at least one item in my portrait area. Today, for example, I am wearing thin purple wool socks, purple earrings, big lilac scarf, and eyewear in two shades of purple---with black loafers, black corduroy pants, magenta tee, and black pullover.

Trouser socks that aren't opaque. Semi-sheer. Thinking of LisaP's recent post with black plaid sox. There are lots of neat sox out there - bright colors and whimsical patterns (depending on one's taste).

The chunkier the shoe, the weightier the sox can be - like a fine knit cotton or cashmere.

Did you see Angie’s recent post of outfits featuring socks?
I got some fishnet anklets at Cazeldonia last summer. Wore them once aith loafers and found them uncomfortable.

I think those socks are great! I like the strategy of keeping the shoes and jeans very simple and without embellishment, with the patterned socks.

It was so warm yesterday!

ST, I like the look you just posted! It’s more complicated than I think of you wearing these days, but really, it’s just a bit of pattern poking out, not a lot, but adds some interest. I bet it’s warmer than the sheers, and that’s the point, isn’t it?

I generally wear my loafers without socks - they are my in-between summer and winter footwear usually. But I have been thinking with all this sock talk that I would like to try some. I will need to buy some thinner socks though because mine are all too heavy. I will stick with neutrals though.

I don’t wear socks that show with loafers. No show Smart Wool in beige or sheer knee highs keep my feet warm enough. I do own some sheer black socks with black tulle attached to the back like a streamer, but have no black loafers. They get worn most with short black boots. They would probably work with loafers though.

For work I do first sheer knee highs in black or blue or grey, and then Cole Haan solid trouser socks in the same colors. The trouser socks are a bit thicker than the sheets, but don’t look casual like many socks.

This is the rest of the outfit- so very simple otherwise. My mask is batik with greyish blues. No WIWs now cause mom is staying in my room with the mirror!
I think I'll check the little shop where I found these to see if they have more subtle ones. Black lace would be great, but the ones I saw so far have a silly ruffle on top. I'm not a ruffle kinda gal

You're inspiring me! I haven't worn loafers much (first because they're hard to fit on my low instep) because of the sock issue. I have lots of booties for the winter, but come March/April it would be fun to switch to loafers. I feel like any interesting sox will be great to make the look intentional.

There may be more possibilities in mom's stash too, as things float to the top!
Trouser socks are a good weight for these mild days (it's 59 right now). I do end up wearing them with my boots too though, cause I never think to size up to accomodate thicker socks :p

No wonder you don’t like to go out in winter—icicle toes (an exaggeration, I hope) will kill anyone’s good time! At least try Uniqlo heattech with your boots, and take big thick socks the next time you try in new ones.

It’s funny how we all react to temperature, for me if it’s cold enough for socks it’s boot weather, otherwise it’s shoes without socks
but when I do wear socks I really like these trouser socks.

I think the trouble is that I don't shop (or do anything but work) in very cold weather. I tend to do my winter shopping in October, when I'm still wearing skirts and sandals!

Generally I just wear boots too when I'm not in sandals. I just wear the transitional shoes in the 50s temp range. We get some of those days in November, December, March, April- but I could be wearing any sort of shoes then. It can be 30 or 70 in those months here. Jan and Feb are boots only, May- Oct are sandals only for me.

I hear you on that! Packing for Florida last March, I couldn’t get it through my head that I wouldn’t want toppers there, and the first few times we went north for Christmas after moving to Florida, I had to do emergency shoe-shopping, because I left my warm footwear back at our place in Tampa. I eventually learned not to go by feel.

Maybe make a note where ever you keep track of wardrobe needs/wants?

And find a winter solstice celebration so you have something to look forward to while looking for winter clothes!

I always wear socks with 2 of my 3 pairs of loafers. One pair is black, I wear plain black socks, and one is navy/tan, I wear plain navy socks. Both pairs are reasonably high vamp so you don’t see much sock when wearing full-length pants.
My bright yellow loafers are for summer. They don’t have socks.

SmartWool makes some lightweight (for them) trouser socks that I like to wear with leather boots in the fall. If you find the right ones, they may fit into your existing boots. They are a step warmer than the trouser socks. I think I found mine when I was helping Clear the Rack.

I have *one* pair of nude-to-me opaque cotton socks that are being worn to death for precisely this, because it's *so* hard to find such skin-coloured socks that aren't sheer/ thin/ not warm - a missed business opportunity for sure, for anyone who's looking for one!

I’m the one wearing loafers w/o socks in winter 95% of the time. If I’ll be outside for any length of time or commuting on foot, I wear boots in winter.
