Those are moto boots and they are all over the place! You don't need to spend that much. Virtually every other woman I see in Manhattan is wearing this style. Definitely not cowboy boots (I don't like cowboy boots, and I like these, therefore they can't be cowboy boots!).

Yeah, Maya, you're right about these not being cowboy boots, but I'm not sure why they appeal to me like a cowboy boot. I wouldn't tuck my jeans into cowboy boots (don't really like that look) but would with these. Maybe they seem a little more like a riding boot? Maybe because I really like the saddle brown leather? I'm not sure!

I love the look of those Veronica slouches. And they come in such great colours too! 13.5 inches is a very short shaft though isn't it? I don't imagine it'd work too well if you're tall. Would love to see pics of them on!

I'm short (5'4") so I think the Veronicas would work for me as a tall boot.

I'm thinking I need to start a fund for these too.

Haha cricket I think I am officially sold on the idea of a savings for these boots. $50 a fortnight means they'd be mine in 4 months....time for winter here!!!

There needs to be a YLF sponsorship program! I discussed this once with Angie though in a different context. We each pick our dream boots and wealthy old men with names like Horston Wangdoodle III will sponsor us, like starving children.

I always seem to associate Frye with cowboy boots, even though I don't think I have ever actually seen Frye cowboy boots before. I really want a pair of their simple pull-on campus boots. My friend loves hers so much she even wears them in the summer when it's 80 degrees! I never would have guessed that I'd like them, just looking at them in pictures, but somehow when I saw them on her I loved them instantly.

I asked some reputable shoe people about the Fryes and they confirmed they are indeed all that and will last along time. Personally, I'm in love with Frye Harness boots and can't get them out of my mind for about 2 years. I thought that tall Docs would 'cure' me, but it actually made it worse, I think

I love Frye boots, particularly the Veronica slouch! Here's how they look on me (I'm 5'3", for reference):

Frye has loads of boot and shoe styles, but are most commonly associated with their cowboy/riding boots and their engineer/moto boots.

If you hunt around, you can get good deals on the boots. I got mine from Sundance for around $140 last year.

I am besotted with my Fryes. They are 12 hours shoes. And they look better the older they get.

Marianna--Fryes often run big, depending on the style. Maybe it's worth trying on if you see one you love? (It looks like the Melissas go to 11.) Then you can stalk them on eBay. That's how I got my lace-up Villagers, for like $70.

FWIW, I have been boot shopping and have tried on lots of FRYE's lately. I usually wear an 8.5, but had to get 8 in the Harness boot, 8 in the Heath outside zip, and stayed with 8.5 in the Cindy Pullup. I do NOT buy them with the intention of wearing a heavy sock. I buy them thinking I'd wear a smartwool sock or hose with a footie of some sort over the hosiery - so a medium sock thickness.

If you are tenacious, you CAN find some deals. I think each of mine ended up being about half price (after I get by Bing cashback $).

I have yet to wear any out (we have so much salt in our parking lots now), but any day. . .

CCiele, I'm so glad you posted your photo of the boots. Confirms to me that these boots would work as tall boots on me. I love your outfit and am inspired that maybe, just maybe, I could get these for less money if I watch for sales.

Kristen, my birthday is in March too. Maybe we will be birthday boot twins!

But Fryes are not on my list. Actually, they never have been. While I liked the campus boots, I don't like them enough to spend that kind of money. I also get the sense that they run narrow, although I could be wrong about that.

My birthday "want" this year are over the knee boots. Trouble is, by the time my birthday comes around, it will start getting too warm to wear them. My puffer doesn't quite reach my knees, so the extra coverage would be much appreciated. If Frye even made a pair of over the knee boots, I'm sure they would be ghastly expensive.

Gosh I am so jealous of you all! I love pretty much every Frye style, but they are all very skinny in the circumference, and no where near my 16.5 inch calves. *sigh* What I would do to have normal width calves.

I have thought about investing in a pair of ankle boots from Frye, but there aren't as many unique options, and for some reason in my mind not worht splurging in as much as a pair of taller shafted Fryes.

Dashrashi, thanks for mentioning that, but I wear a very true size 12 so I'm out of luck. The 11s are too small on me. It is quite irritating. Every time I see them at Nordstrom I drool a little and then hate my giant feet so much more. I've tried on the men's Harness style (identical to the women's Harness) and it fits me, but I need to get over the mental block of buying men's shoes. Ideally Frye will get the hint and start making a few size 12s... there are more of us out there than manufacturers realize.

I have tons of boots, but honestly, I'd rather have ONE expensive pair of Fryes than all my other ones.

Get them, Marianna! The Docs I bought were men's (no side zipper) because I wanted the shorter boots. When they're the same style, it really doesn't matter.

Marianna I agree with cricket -nothing wrong with getting mens shoes!! At 5"10 I am one of the shorter females on my mum's side of the family, as most of my cousins and my babushka were all over 6 foot (at 85 my babushka and I are finally the same height). They have all had to buy mens shoes and jeans at some stage. Especially when it comes to unisex styling like these and docs, doesn't matter! Remember size is just a number!!!

Msnara, thanks for those reviews! They seem to suggest the Melissas run true to size, so I might be best stalking the 10s. Narrow I can handle as I've never had a problem with shoes in that respect before I don't think. I have camper spiral boots and believe they run quite narrow too, but they work fine for me luckily!

And cceile, I forgot to compliment you on your Veronica slouch's.....they look great! Is that the grey colour?

Oh, Marianna. I’m so sorry that they don’t come in a size 12. But I would 100% buy mens boots. NO WORRIES. If it makes you feel any better, I am toying with the idea of purchasing men’s button down shirts because they come is much nicer colours! A gal has got to do what a gal has got to do.

Marianna -- What's that saying, "If the shoe fits ..."? Go for it! And many Docs are unisex/men's sizes too.

Yublocka -- Thanks! The color is actually slate -- a medium gray with an olive-green tone.

Angie -- I don't think I've posted the boots before, but they are actually pre-YLF! I got them over a year ago.

Thanks for all the encouragement ladies. I had tried on a pair of men's Fryes in a brick and mortar store once and the salesman actually told me that it's fairly common that gender boundaries are crossed with Frye boots -- men with small feet buy women's sizes and women with big feet buy men's sizes. I was with my boyfriend when I was trying them on and he actually said he liked the Fryes better on me than the women's boots I was wearing. Go figure.
