My Gap velvet leggings and NYDJ ponte pants arrived today. I was SO EXCITED.

Sadly, the Gap leggings are significantly shorter on me then the stock picture shows and really tight. I guess that makes sense if they are leggings, but they seemed tighter then the leggings I wear to the gym. I didn't feel I would ever be comfortable in them.

Meanwhile, the rise on the NYDJ ponte pants is weirdly long. I don't think I have ever had an issue with long rises in the past.

I am not opposed to trying new things. In fact, I love trying new things. But I decided today that when a manufacturer "gets me," I am going to be loyal.

Oh dear -- so sorry to hear this. For selfish reasons as well, since I have those leggings on order. However, I am short, so the length at least may not be an issue. And I sized up in them. So I will cross fingers.

As for NYDJ -- they are actually known for their very high rises. I have quite a long rise for my height and even I don't care for the NYDJ rise -- it is too high for me. (I probably shouldn't generalize because I only tried one of their styles -- but it really felt weird to me, and I have heard the same from some others.)

Oh well. Live and learn. Onwards, as Angie would say!

Happy to have the company;-)! So sorry they didn't work out. It does look like an unusually long/high rise on the NYDJ pants. It actually looks much longer on the Find than it does on the listing. Weird. Oh well. Back to the KUTs! If it ain't broke...

Suz -- I'll bet the Gap velvet leggings will be perfect for you. They are lovely pants. The fabric is very nice, the construction is excellent, and the color is perfect. If you are more comfortable with a shorter length than I am, you will likely be very happy with them. I did not think to size up. I bought my regular size.

There is one more thing. Even though "legging" is in the description, in my mind I was envisioning a "looser" fit. So when I tried them on and they fit like a legging I was genuinely surprised. I thought they would be a velvet version of the ponte pants I own and love. Slim, but not "legging tight." So even if I had sized up, I would still have been surprised.

I will say I am obsessed with the idea of a slim, full-length, pant in midnight blue in velvet for the Holidays. That would be so perfect for me.

Suz -- let me know what you think. I am particularly interested in what you think of the length.

Sterling, I generally love the fit of NYDJ...but even to my eye, the rise on the pair you linked to looked really high.

Hope you can find something else that you will love!!

Sorry to hear this didn't work out. I have tried the NYDJ a few times, ever hopeful, but also find the rise super high. I am quite short though. Maybe there are some other models that have a lower rise. Hope you find something suitable.

I've tried NYDJ several times and the brand doesn't seem to work for me, probably because of the rise. I too have ordered the velvet leggings (I admit I am quite the lemming) and, like Suz, a short length will actually be good for me. I ordered both the navy and the burgundy since they were such a good price. Do you think a size up would work for you...would you consider wearing them tucked into boots?

Hi Susie: Sizing up would not have helped me because even though the description said "legging," I was thinking slim pants. And the length on me (5'10") was laughable. Boots might have made the difference, but I own mostly mid-calf height boots. I think a sliver of flesh would have peaked out from beneath the mid-height boot.

I think if you are a little bit shorter or more comfortable with ankle-length or capri-length leggings, you will be fine. These really are NICE pants. Great color!! The midnight is lovely. Well made. I don't think you could beat these for the price.

One last thing, I have a personal prejudice against cropped pants on me. Because I am tall, I spent my teenage years in pants that were always at least 1" too short. That 1" can make a huge difference and can deeply impact self esteem. I have bought cropped pants, but I am so particular about length that I will try on 100 pair of cropped pants and keep one. And then a lot of time, I have to make myself wear that one pair of pants.

Despite my personal prejudice, I would recommend them to my friends because not everyone feels the way I do. Hope they work out for you.

Too bad:( I have the NYDJ Ponte pants from NAS and they are very long in the rise but the length was great so I kept them. I would rather have them longer in the rise than shorter...if you have a Costco nearby I just went back and got a 2nd pair of the Andrew Marc Ponte pants in charcoal (1st pair are black) They are absolutely great! I'm 5'9 with a 34 inch inseam and these fit slim with just the right length. There was a thread about them on here somewhere I will try to find...

LOL I have those moments ALL THE TIME when I'm trying on pants. Definitely when I practice saying, "Next!"

NYDJ do not work for me at all -- the rises are always ridiculously long on my body. And I sympathize with the short lengths. It's always such a disappointment when I pull on something and it fits wonderfully in the waist, the hip, the thigh...and then I look down at the hem, and...oh well.

I was eyeing those Gap leggings for the holidays, that's too bad. NYDJ is definitely long in the rise on me too. I don't own any but during NAS I tried their ponte pants in petite and they seemed better in the rise but oddly still long.

I bought a pair of NYDJ last year and they looked gross on me. The sides had a funny volume that almost looked like equestrian pants but not in a good way. I still see them in my closet because I didn't return them, and the color is perfect for my brown/white blazer, and I still plan to have them altered. As for GAP, I never know what size to order although some of my favorite finds have been from GAP.

Ah, well. Darn it, and "next"! NYDJ does have different lengths of rises for different styles. I've learned to read the descriptions for that info; some work on me and others don't.

I don't think I am going to try NYDJs again. I was very much turned off by the pair I did try. There was nothing special or interesting about these pants. I consider them an utter fail because they tainted the brand for me.

Right now time is a premium and I just don't have time to order, try, and return pants that might or might not work.

I agree, that especially with pants sticking to a brand that works is a great idea. I tend to do that - less so with tops where I can fit a lot of brands. An inch too short, or too long, or too narrow in the hip can just make them look so blah.
