I learned about 'sneaker heads' earlier this year when I was telling my 20 something sons about this strange pop-up store in the Big Mall in the Big City. Folks were lined up to get in, and there was security(!) while a DJ was spinning tunes just inside the store. Looking through the window, I saw a sparsely stocked shop that seemed to carry only high top sneakers?
When I told the story, my kids told me about sneaker heads and used as an example a young man from the gym we overheard talking about how he was driving around with a pair of sneakers in the trunk of his car, because he doesn't want to explain their purchase to his mom!
Well, this week posters started popping up for SNEAKERCON. I guess a city with a shoe museum wouldn't bat an eyelash at a conference devoted to sneaker culture!
I suppose sneaker collecting is no different than say - collecting iconic bags!
