Popped into a couple of stores in the last few days (construction fatigue is getting to me, the noise is chasing me out of the house). There are some lovely spring things out there, but not much feels like me. Which is fine, really, as I have enough clothes.

However, I wouldn’t mind one new spring/summer top or a casual warm-weather dress in a nice-for-me solid color that’s not black. But why does everything still seem to have ruffles, tiers or puffed sleeves! Enough already.

Small rant over. ;-D

Same - doll-like dresses , dresses with ruffles, cutouts, floral and just couple styles with some interesting prints.

I'm feeling the blues as well. Last night I ordered a rich blue cropped shirt from COS.

I can deal with blue trending! Also maybe a shoulder pad or two, if not too extreme.

But retail is kinda sad in b&m stores at the moment. And I need a new swimsuit….ugh.

I hear you! I never was a fan of ruffles or poofs, and they seem to be the trend that won’t die. Brick and Mortar stores almost never carry what they sell online that I want (Athleta can you hear me?). It’s sad, really. Shopping used to be fun. Not so much anymore.

I am also tired of tiers and poufy sleeves, as I have plenty in those categories and do not want more. I don't mind seeing some in retail, as long as that is not the only option available. For ruffles it is more complicated - I was going to put them in the same category, but saw some new, fresh looking versions on runways for this year that I hope translate doing to regular stores, so there is that.

I am joining the club of "Bring on all the Blues".

Agree. I don't mind a few subtle ruffles or poufs but enough already! It's not a good look for me.

It happens that way, sometimes! You love stuff some seasons, and you don't love stuff other seasons.

Janet, as far as I can remember, you are not much of a Spring shopper! Summer is when you begin to shop more and enjoy it.

I was at one of the biggest malls in the US yesterday (and today), Somerset Mall in Detroit, Michigan. Whole day! I saw EVERYTHING and went everywhere in person in stores. First time in 3 years, really. VERY FUN!

What is extremely popular on the shop floors:

cargo, parachute, utility pants
long blazers
very bright patterns - but not in classic patterns
short above the knee hemlines
oversized tops
BOXY fits
skimpy tight cropped tops
Athleisure
DENIM anything
White
glitz!
sneakers
jewellery!!!
watches making a comeback

Still seeing lots of earth tones, greyed tones, black, ditsies, and ruffles - but not as much.

Lots of blues and pinks coming through. Many more natural fibres coming through too.

I love Spring shopping! I come alive in Spring! It's my favourite, and I know I am in the minority.

I hope everyone finds what they are looking for eventually.

Since I'm trying not to buy new items this year, I had not seen all the ruffles and tiers and - ugh - puffed sleeves.

ETA: Janet, I'm with you on the noise. Monday we started the process of having our roof completely replaced. This will take weeks. The pounding is tolerable so far but it's only been three days. Plus it's creepy to see ladders and legs at the windows.

Well, now I want to drive to Michigan to see an entirely new mall! It's about 5 hours from me, so it won't casually happen, but I can still have it as a goal. Our Macy's and Nordstrom seem so messy (Macy's) or empty (Nordstrom) that it's hard to imagine anything new in them.

I used to LOVE heading out in March to see bright colors and light fabrics, but I haven't had that experience in the last few years. The death of Marshall Fields was really a tragedy for us Chicagoans. Now I just go into my second closet and admire the spring fashions there.

Also agree! I'm not a ruffle person and have decided against many a pretty top in a great color because of little ruffles, tucks, and even tiers.

I have bought a couple of tops on sale that have sleeves that widen out below the elbow. Haven't worn them yet because it's still cool and rainy and I have to wear a jacket or cardigan. Maybe the pleated sleeve top could be tamed into a jacket sleeve. I'm waiting for the real spring.

I avoid the malls--I haven't seen much in them for the last 3 years. Jeans, many pants, and tees and tops I can buy online just as well.

Nice to know I’m not the only one!

Swimsuits are just no fun to shop for.

I’m set for lap swimming suits. What I need is a refresh of resort-ready suits. A lot of stuff I see is either matronly or too skimpy or with no support. Ugh! And the Everything But Water near us closed. I placed a big online order so we shall see if anything from that is successful.

@ Sal - I think you are on to something! I’ve tried on suits from Nip Tuck’, and wowsa! Label says made in Australia. If I could just find a pattern/colour - it will be my second vacation suit.

I am real tired of puff shoulders and sleeves too. Also tired of racerback tanks, and dresses with a racerback tank style top half.
You know what I miss? Dolman sleeves.

Yes! I’m still in Michigan! Hanging with dear friends and their families. Back in Seattle over the weekend. It’s been absolutely fantastic to reconnect and be with friends again! Sooo missed it.

Waving to all the Michiganders!!! Your Somerset Mall is the BEST Mall I’ve been to in the US! Very impressive - four department stores in one mall. Mind blowing. Detroit downtown is beautiful! And the food scene sublime.

As much as I'm happy for the warmer weather and longer days- spring shopping is the worst. Every year about this time, I hate everything I own, but hate what's in the shops more!

I love the color of the top Kate posted above. I am very picky about ruffles, tend to shy away from tiers, and very picky again about sleeves. And thrift stores are becoming more and more SHEIN overstock stores (but not entirely, thankfully).
