Gryffin, like you, I prefer to dress in COOL colours, and most leopard prints are warm. However, I have a long thin leopard print topper in grey, taupe and offwhite that I can wear year round. Despite its large size and eyecatching print, it's surprisingly versatile and easy to style. (Can't show you now, as I am away from home, and it's not in my suitcase this time.)

My leopard print wedged platform booties always win me compliments. They are more cool in reality than they look in the photo.

Gryffin, those scarves and that topper are GORGEOUS. The topper is definitely worth babying until you can find its replacement.

I never wore animal print until I joined YLF. Then I discovered how well it helped to integrate dark and lighter tones when my hair was dark blonde. I loved and still love my leopard belt because it adds a bit of warmth to my mostly cool palette. But it doesn't work as easily for me now with my silver hair, and these days I much prefer the cooler versions And, as you point out, those are hard to find. I still have a few items, however...

KM--- I love the cowhide bags!! Love! I still have my (somewhat worn looking) pony print Okalas -- black and white for the win! But no photo, alas.

I also have a few nontraditional animal print items -- whimsical prints of animals. The dress is hares. Tops are Siamese cats.

Your snow leopard coat would work well on me too, Gryffin.

I currently don’t own anything in animal print (except Suz’ kitty shirt) but wouldn’t mind something flashy like a pink leopard skirt.

Fun thread! I am enjoying seeing all your animals!

The only item I own is a snow leopard pencil skirt. It’s heavy and thick so winter wear only and quite the outlier in my wardrobe but a fun piece with all my black winter clothes.

Suz, I'm trying to figure out what to say if I were to get a cowhide bag. Maybe I would tell my vegan friends it's synthetic? ??? The bags are just sooo appealing glad to be in your good company as a fan!

Janet - a clutch would be wonderful! And yes size and styles evolve. We need to keep and buy the things that work for us now.
Tanya - wow!! What a gorgeous collection!! I want to come and shop your closet! And isn't that true, everything old is new again. I want to remind myself to look with fresh eyes and try and imagine how I can make things I have work in new ways!
Bonnie - what a great sweater! And I think it's cool that we all don't have the same things! It puts the "I" in individual. The important thing is to pick what calls to each of us. here's to diversity!
Angie - that's the key, it's what works for each of us. And no, things don't stay static, styles evolve, and the only measure of success worth having is that it gives/gave us pleasure and was well worn and well used!
rachy - yes, dalmation! We are our dogs! I would love a faux dalmation coat and scarf!
rebekah - you too are winning the "wild child" award!! What an absolutely fantastic collection. how do you ever choose?!! So many amazing pieces! Kudos!
Greyscale - the McQ used to come in a very pretty pink.....! Yes the leopard skull is a real favorite!

I don’t really care for animal prints, and purged them from my closet many years ago with one exception. That would be my giraffe print jacket—truly a wild card for me when I bought it over a dozen years ago. The print is chocolate brown on white and I still love it. I think it’s going to get some wear this fall.

I have a heap of Leopard and Zebra stuff but my current favorite would be these snakeskin motiff Jeffrey Campbell booties. I should have taken the shape-keeper stuffing out of it for the pic!

Griffyn, what GORGEOUS coat and scarves! Gosh, I want them The coat could be close to a wardrobe obsession, if I had it, as we discussed the other day, lol.

And so many amazing collections of animal print items here, wow.

I have never had much animal print things, wonder why, actually. Probably the warm earthy colours - there is less in cool colours to choose, as you guys have already said. I have a few scarves, a pair of trousers which are a bit “wild side”, a hunting bag and snake patterned sneakers. That’s about it. The scarves are not worn much, the trousers are more worn - normally with black jacket and shoes and the sneakers are workhorses.

My first thought, back when animal print was declared print of the season in July, was - oh crap - something new again! But I tend to forget that my closet is in parts 10-15 years old and that I've found a lot of good stuff during that time. Plus - having first gained and then lost a lot of weight made me "forget" about a lot of that stuff too. So there you are - anything animal print that fits right now. From the 25 years old H&M scarf (1st one shown) to the softer colored top (1st row right) I bought on sale last week.

I have a leopard print long coat and puffer. My puffer is reversible, black one side, leopard the other. It is brilliant for travelling, as I get two coats in one.
I also have a leopard print shirt, bag and some scarves. I am looking for the right leopard pumps. With my leopard prints, I tend to be very fussy, it must be love, otherwise they tend to go unworn.

KM - I don't know that company but I have a bestie who collects all things cow - aprons, figurines, mouse pads, prints, clothing - everything. I think it's a really cool design. It's perfect for my colorway too. I would definitely be open to the right piece. So love it. I hope you add it to your wardrobe!
Roberta - navy faux fur sounds divine!! Totally unique. What a wonderful piece to own. Great tops and yes would also work fantastically under jackets.
The Cat - great booties! I would definitely compliment you too. You coat sounds awesome - steal worthy!! That's exactly the piece I'm looking for lighter and trans seasonal! Yes, somehow it goes with everything!!
Suz - great pieces!! Yes, they all add that little something to an outfit that takes it from nice to fantastic! You wear those pony pump well!!
smittie - hope you find your skirt! Allsaints just send out an email on their trends and animal and snakeskin was featured. I think this may be the season when we an find some nice items. Hoping!
Aquamarine - that skirt sounds awesome! Yeah, I have issues with really heavy weight pieces because the opportunity for wear is short, but if they are that special you just make it work. But hoping we can all find great transitional pieces this season.
KM - might you start with a small piece? Wallet? Belt? See how it feels? Work into it. Gorgeous bags I do hope you get one!!
Kate - just proving there is the right print for everyone, and never say never!! Actually having only one makes it more special!! Enjoy that. Giraffe print is super hard to find. I hope you enjoy it this fall!
Opaline - what amazing boots! Talk about show stopper!! I can see why you would never want to take them off!!
Katerina - wow, what an amazing outfit! I was hyperventilating when I got to 4!!! Yes, I'm like a dog with snow leopard. Always sniffing the air trying to pick up the scent. There was a topper on Emerson Fry, Viva has it, I thought it looked b&w in the photo. It arrived I was slashing open the box, alas colors not true, definitely warm soft browns and orange background. Very beautiful but went with nothing. Sadly sent it back. Still hoping "the one" comes along!
Joha - talk about shop you closet! What a lovely surprise! You will have fun with this trend!
Bijou - that bag and scarf are TDF fabulous! What a teaser since the other pieces must be as extraordinary! What an amazing shopper you are! Enjoy all your gorgeous pieces!

Hmm. Late here, but I have two leopard/animal print coats , one in a standard camel/black/offwhite brocade, no button, mid-thigh length ; and the other in a fuzzy napped grey-er leopard pattern in an above-knee length. One is a little warmer than the other, and both are collarless.....just the way I like it They are occasion-al wear coats, and actually need a new scarf for each (since my AMc disappeared ). Thanks for the reminder.

I did have a pair of great calf hair animal print stilettos, but had to give them away this past winter. My high heel ship has sailed. I have a random assortment of leopard print scarves too - and need to edit that mess out - again, thanks for the reminder !

You're very right, gryffin; there is a right print for everyone. I jumped on the bandwagon for animal prints years ago, before realizing I didn't really like them, or at least, not the typical warm palette leopard print that was so prevalent—and which is what I bought. I also bought without having the right supporting acts. Thanks to YLF, I'm a lot smarter now.

The snow leopard print is beautiful, and does flatter my coloring in a way the warmer colors in animal prints do not. If I were going to add any animal print, it would be that colorway. However, I'm happy with my giraffe print jacket, and the opportunity to wear it this season in different ways, and with colors that I wouldn't necessarily have thought of on my own, like the blue Angie mentioned in her column. I'm excited by the possibilities. There are years I haven't worn it, but I'll never get rid of it. The jacket style also has a 60s vibe, which greatly appeals to me. Hmm, maybe I should add chocolate brown trousers to my shopping list!

Oh boy, I have a nice collection of leopard print. I have a soft spot for it and will not get rid of it, but do take a break from wearing it. Most of my pieces are older and not in my finds (except the most recent below). I have a Charles Gray long jacket, a Calvin Klein furry long coat, old J Crew perfect shirt, a couple of bags, a bunch of belts, and a scarf. I will likely add a piece or two this season while there is abundance. I wear it as an accent (unless you can find an ancient post of mine where I put it all on at once) and usually with toffee, white, and/or denim. I only have 1 zebra item - a purse) and no other animal prints because leopard appeals to me and is a good tone for me. Go Team Animal print!

Thx gryffin!
