I used to have LOOONG hair. Like nearly to my butt. I chopped it to a short bob when I turned 40 to donate it to Locks of Love. Since then I've grown to various lengths but never that long again. Long hair is one of those things that some women love just for the sake of it, and that's fine, but now that I look back on pictures, it really wasn't all that fab a look for me.

I'd start with a LOB and some layers, and then see how you feel. As long as you can still pull it back, growing it out would be easy. But it also may not feel like a real change.

In your pics I like it best when it's pulled off your face. I know you said not short but it makes me wonder what a short do would look like on you. I'm a big talker though because I won't go short with mine either. I think the advise you've gotten to go mid length are good. I just recently cut mine from collar bone length to a lob that barley touches my shoulder in the front, a little shorter in the back. I can't believe how much easier it is to style. Good luck and I can't wait to see the pics!

You have gorgeous hair and you are lucky because you are so versatile in how you can style it. You could cut off a few inches so it lands just past your collar just to update your look a bit, but other than that " if it ain't broke don't fix it".

I am just the opposite. I love my hair short and sassy and I get tons of compliments. I just cannot do long hair

I had the same issue---for me, I felt like my hair was just Boring with a capital B. I'm lucky to have "good hair", but I just never styled it. Ended up always going with a pony tail, or behind the ears and it just was sort of "there". I wanted a haircut that would LOOK like a hairstyle, you know? I took many, many pitstops up the ladder from a mid length single layer no bangs style to my current pixie, and I loved almost all of the cuts. For me, "tuck ability" behind the ears remained necessary (I've got a swoop of bangs now that I can't corral without a pin). Maybe a long layer would give you some "ummph"? Your hair is gorgeous, and so are you, in all your iterations!

Keep it longer while you are young enough to wear it that way. A good tidy up and a bit shorter is all you need. Your locks are very glamorous and versatile with length.

I am coming back to say that mid length is more maintenance. I am getting use to that. I use to just wash my hair and viola it styled itself. Not anymore. I have to do something. Blow dry for a smooth look or flip my head and blow dry for a wavy look. Do nothing and it is okay but not FAB.

Your hair looks good at multiple lengths, but you end up with more volume and easier styling options when shorter, in my opinion. And it will always grow back, right?

My hair is thick and rather frizzy. I used to have long hair, but it took me much too long to style on a daily basis. Hours to dry naturally or 30+ minutes with a blowdryer. So all I ever ended up doing was putting it back in a ponytail, which I felt defeated the purpose.

Then I went mid-length with bobs and inverted bobs of various length, which were flattering, but the quality of the cut made a huge difference. And I did like that I could still pin it back. But finally I decided to just go super-short and I have no regrets. Like Elizabeth, wash, product, run out the door is all I need to do and I think it still looks chic.
