I'm regular-waisted based on measurements, but longer-waisted based on how most mass-retail clothing fits me -- ie, the "waist" on tailored tops and dresses often hits well above my natural waist.

I guess, long, 2 hands between, but have a longer rise, too.
And, same as cobalt, think: "I'm regular-waisted based on measurements, but longer-waisted based on how most mass-retail clothing fits me -- ie, the "waist" on tailored tops and dresses often hits well above my natural waist".

Team Long-Waisted!
Three hands easily. But this is no surprise, I am usually the tallest person sitting down around a table -- men included.

(I'm also short-legged, so I wear Tall tops and Petite bottoms).

short waisted here (1.5 hand widths). big bust though so that exacerbates the problem. Hence my belt fear. but I'm tackling it first with low contrast belts under a topper.

I too have a long rise, I need 9 inches just to be right below the navel. so it's not so obvious.

Regular (2 hands).

Regular, but with short legs . . . even though I'm 5'2, regular dresses tend to work and fit at my natural waist, but I often have to hem the length

Wow, I never knew I am short waisted ( exactly one hand width) ...always knew I was long legged (32" inseam). 4+ inch difference between the shoulder/hip measurement and the hip/knee measurement!

Now I feel all confused as to how to dress. I am hourglass shape and love to highlight my slim waist, esp in pencil skirts and shift dresses. I have always felt most comfortable in mid rise trousers. I hate empire waist dresses and tops. I always feel like it's under my neck! and soooo uncomfortable. I do column of color a lot and 50% tuck in and 50% leave untucked with my pants. Also I hate dropped waist because it's always tight across my bum and hips and is never flattering. Ugh....I feel like I am in kindergarten, trying to learn how to dress ......;-(

Short waisted- 1.5 hand widths.

Okay - I'm not sure I know where my natural waist is?

There's three hands from the bottom of my bust to my belly button. My belly button is one finger less than the top of my hips (so either way, I'm long waisted). But I'm narrowest at the base of my rib cage, which is just over one hand below the bottom of my bust. That's not actually my natural waist, is it?

I'm equally confused with measuring. I think I'm equal spaces from my shoulder to where I feel my legs bend in my hip, I'm long waisted (21" versus 17"), but if I use the top of my hip bone, I'm short waisted (16" and 22").

I think I need to figure out what these more specific definitions are - I feel like I'm mostly proportional....

I followed Google's instructions for finding my natural waist, and now I think I'm about 2 1/2 hands between my bust and natural waist. This seems to fit since I'm about 5'9". I think it's proportional.

Short waisted.

I can fit one hand-width from my underbust to my waist.

I can barely fit one finger-width between the bottom of my ribcage and the top of my hipbone.
