What a variety we have here! I am usually size 10 or M but sometimes 12 or L for pants and outerwear. Sometimes I go to L in tops because my shoulders are wide but then I need to take them in in the bust and waist.

Amazing how sizes vary from brand to brand. I usually wear a S on both top and bottom. Bottoms can be anywhere from a size 0 to 4. Tops are usually a 2 or 4. Shoes are usually 7.5, but sometimes 8. Dresses are a 2 or 4. Skirts range from 0 to 4. Jeans are anywhere from 24 to 26, depending on the style and brand!

Jeans 23-24, pants 00, everything else 00P (I need the length in pants) or PXXS in letter sizing.

I'm in the same range as you, Khris. I'm hoping to get back into the 6-8-10 range instead, because my body is in better shape and I'm at a healthier weight when I'm mostly back in my 8's.

In high school, when I was at a much lighter weight, I don't think I was any smaller than a 6/7 (juniors.) And that change isn't due to vanity sizing - it's just the way I'm built, because I lose and gain weight pretty evenly all over.

I'm usually a 0 or 2 for bottoms, a S or XS for tops. If I could wear the perfect pants they'd probably be size 4 in the waist and size 0 or 2 in the hips (I'm fairly straight, so fit's always challenging).

I weigh about the same as my early 20s, when I was more typically a 5/6 or 7/8. So I think there is some vanity sizing, but also maybe because I'm wearing different brands.

Edited to add my height, about 5'7".

0-15% of the time
2- 75% of the time
4- 10% of the time

XS or S, mostly XS except in designer or Euro

jeans 25 or 26

Not everyone is the size I imagined them being. So interesting. My closet holds mostly 2's and 4's in both tops and bottoms. A petite usually fits best on top, but are too short for bottoms.

Same here Joy.

I have a theory that the curvier you are, the bigger you appear on camera. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but just based on my meet-and-greets with YLFers (and their reactions to me as well(, this is what I have concluded. I also base this on a lot of idiotic comments about "curvy" celebrities who are actually probably a size 4.

I wish I didn't find that to be true, believe me!

Hmm. A small or medium. Anywhere between 4-8, but usually a 6. Size 10 shoe. It's weird. I just bought 2 skirts, one is 4 and one is a 6. Go figure.

I'm not sure where my body will land when I've lost all the weight I'm going to lose, but yesterday when I was shopping I was a jeans size 6 at Old Navy and fit mostly in S shirts, with a couple of mediums here and there.

I'm a 4/6 in bottoms and a 4/6/8 in tops depending on how fitted they are. Petite inseam but all over the place on top. I find sizing very confusing, and when I thrift I browse between sizes 2 - 10 as vintage sizing is very different. I used to be a 10 back in the 80s and I have not gotten thinner over the years!

I am generally a 6 or S top and bottom, occasionally a 4 or XS. Size 7.5 or 8 shoe.

Usually a S or 4 on the top, sometimes I get lucky and go down to an XS or 2. For bottoms, 2/26 or 4/27, usually a 2/26 in bootcuts and 4/27 in skinny/straight leg styles.

I am exactly the same as Megan:
23/24 in denim or 00 for the length
XXSP or 00P in everything else. My sizes never vary

Size 14/16. Size L or XL. Shoe size: 9 or 9.5, European 40

10 -12 Australian /NZ sizing ...not sure what that is in US (maybe an 8)

Sveta and Mo, you both look slimmer in pics to me than your size - are you really tall, Sveta? Mo, I know you're 5'4" (you look way taller) - do you wear your clothes loose? I would have guessed you to be a 2?

I'm similar to Khris and Kari in size, a US 10/12, GB & Aust 12/14, EUR 40/42 give or take. Shoes US 8, GB 6.5, EUR 40, AUST 8.5 Heightwise I am similar to Mo and Cilleena, 5'4" (163cm).

I think I look about this size and height in photos?

I'm a size 4, sometimes a 2, and tall - 5'8".
Size 7.5 or 8 shoes, narrow feet.

For most stores and brands, I'm typically a 6 on bottom and an 8 on top (down from a 12-14 for both a year ago!). I'm medium height (5'7"+), so sometimes I find that pants are too short, but Talls are way to long. I also have long, skinny feet (9N).

Sizes are all over the place! I have:
2, 4, 6P, 2P, 38, 36, XS, S, 26, 27, 29. I guess I'm mostly a 2, but it depends on the brands.

Lynne, I think you look pretty much my size in that photo. I am surprised to hear you think I look different than my size. Gets me to wondering if I have mildly distorted body image? Never thought so, but . . .
As for size 2, this is where I think number sizing gets tricky. I'll bet that in some nicer, higher end stuff I might be a 2 but in jeans I'm a 27/4 pretty much across the board. No matter how you slice it, my hips are 36 1/2" and they are the widest part of me that has to be accommodated and therefore dictate my size. I am a slave to them ha ha!

Lynne, I am actually 5'6", but I think we look the same size in photographs. You have a more defined waist than I do though. I would LOVE to know some heighths for these size posts too. Wow. Quite a few 0s...my 13 year old is TINY (she's 5'3" and about 85 pounds) and a size 0.

oops, sorry, Cilleena. I agree we do look a similar height :).

If you've met fellow YLF-ers , have you been surprised like Maya by their IRL build?

Right now I am an 8 or 29. I do have NYDJ in size 6, but they run so large, it doesn't count. I have some 10s that are smaller than 8's--I've measured. I wear a medium although I do have some L's from last year (see healthy habits post.)

I should wear a 10 1/2 shoe but have from 9 1/2 sandals to 11s. I am 5' 8.5". Sleeve length, hems and waistline placement have been my biggest fit problems.

Its good to hear so many vary like me... One can start to feel kind of weird. I am always bigger on top than bottom. I lost about 20 lbs. last year and now wear mostly M or L on top or a size 10 or 12 if numbered; on the bottom I am pretty much always an 8 or a M or a 29 in jeans. In pumps and sandals I am always an 8 and I just get an 8.5 in boots or even a 9 in trainers to make room for thick cushiony socks. The shoes don't vary as much as the clothes; I think that's because I treat myself to expensive shoes but not so much with clothes. Dresses are a nightmare for me. I have to be in a really fresh, positive mood to even try them and those little side zipper doohickies make me hyperventilate. I just never know if anything is going to fit in the dress department. And there seems to be a terrible amount of variation in dress sizing. Anyone else have a problem with this??

P.S. We are all beautiful exactly how we are!!

Cilleena, I'm assuming that your daughter is a 0 in the junior's section. I'm the same height but 25 lbs heavier, and my 0s are from Loft, AT, Gap, Limited, JCrew, etc. There's no way I could fit into a 0 in the junior's department at Nordstrom, for example. Just goes to show how wonky the sizing systems are from store to store.

Yes, height matters a lot, obviously! That's why the whole BMI thing makes sense. Re. wacky sizes: I ordered this jacket from Urban Outfitters a while back, in a large (my usual size). It was so small that I had my son try it on, just for kicks. He is 12, and is 5'10" and about 115 pounds--so, quite slim and decidedly not curvy!--and the jacket was snug on him through the abdomen. Kooky! These sorts of experiences remind me that the size of a particular garment is somewhat arbitrary and so it's absolutely ridiculous/pointless to define yourself by it. Is a person happy? Fit and competent, emotionally, interpersonally, physically? Kind to others? Those are the standards that are the most meaningful to me.

Kate, sizes are so odd aren't they? Actually, she's a 0 at Acerombie and Fitch...not sure if I spelled that right. However, she wears a size 14 at Gap...in the little girl's section. I see that an adult is wearing a 0 or a 2 and it blows my mind. What a tiny person that must be.

This is a fascinating, if personal, thread. Definitely a lot of surprises.
Lynne--you say you are a US 10/12 but based solely on the pic you posted, I would have put you at a 6.
Maybe it's that height is something that self-portraits rarely capture?

I am just shy of 5'10" and am usually a straight 4 on pants, skirts, blouses and dresses. Of course I have items that are 2s (AT, ATL) and 6s, but 4 is the norm.
Jeans vary far more for me--I have everything from a 26 (Gap) to 30 (Paige), with 27/28 being most typical.
Knitwear and such is almost always a S.
Shoe size is a 9 with few deviations.

Hmmm, in Australian sizing I am a:
Size 8 - 20% of the time;
Size 10 - 70% of the time; and
Size 12 - 10% of the time. (I think the equivalent may be US 4; 6; 8?)
