Some of you may have caught my post the other day indicating that I was fed up with my mostly worn out full-length camisoles that twist and shimmy up my torso when I'm layering under a dress, causing a lot of fidgeting and bulges under my clothes that I detest. I decided that it was beyond time to try out a Second Base demi-camisole, and those of you that chimed in with your glowing reviews motivated me to pull the trigger.
I ordered 3 camisoles: Brittany in Scarlet and Electric Blue, and Lesley in black, which is topped bordered with an inch or so of flat, black sequins. (And I said I wasn't a "daytime sparkle" kind of girl!)
The modal/spandex blend is SO darn soft and lightweight, even more so than my softest modal pajamas. I thought up front that $30 for a demi-camisole was pretty pricey, but oh my, the comfort factor is incredible. (However, I also found a coupon online before I ordered, and I see also that returning customers receive discounts and deals.)
I was worried about sizing - I wear a 32G/H these days - but I ordered the size Large that was recommended by the sizing charts. While I would have been okay with a *little* bit more vertical length, the width was just perfect - enough give to comfortably wiggle it over my shoulders and chest, but not loose enough to slide around. I played around with the adjustable straps and found the perfect length to pair with my wrap (or mock-wrap) dresses.
And here's the best part - you know those wrap dresses I'm so obsessed with lately? The colors I chose are a near perfect match to the cerulean blue base of the Banana Republic dress, and the firey-red tones in the Tahari coral patterned dress. Hurrah! Now I'm even more excited to wear them all the time. Just for kicks, I thew these dresses on so I could show you how uncanny the color match is.
Today for work I chose to debut Lesley, the black sequin-trimmed cami, under my black Gap knit flutter-sleeved, faux-wrap dress with tiny white polka dots all over it. (You know, I realized today this is probably the oldest dress in my wardrobe - I bought it in early 2008 shortly after "discovering" YLF, and it's still going strong with relatively little wear on the knit fabric.) I paired my new Me Too beige and black patent Chanel-esque flats with the dress, and felt like adding accessories that made me feel glam: my hummingbird pin from Toronto, and the silver interwoven pendant necklace that I picked up at a thrift shop last year. You can see the outfit in the center of picture 1 below, and in #3 as well. The camisole stayed in place so well that honestly, I forgot it was there - it was no less comfortable than simply wearing a bra, but with greater coverage. I can't believe I waited so long to give Second Base a try, but one day in and I'm officially hooked.
I'm seriously thinking about buying some cheap full-length camis from Old Navy in colors that Second Base doesn't offer and doing some DIY-surgery on them, cropping them and adding elastic, to see if I can achieve the result. Big dreams - come summer, we'll see if I have time to do it!
