When is the best time to shop for a petite leather jacket, and what style would work best for my body type (same size top to bottom, with defined waist? I think I'm a Figure 8 because my hip line is straight.

I bought mine from Nordstrom during the Anniversary Sale in July a few years ago. I think they have the best selection of petite sizes in leather jackets.

Another option is to look for a jacket that can be altered, and factor that into the price. Many regular-sized jackets are designed to be cropped, so often the main fit issue is the sleeves. I paid $45 at an expensive tailor (she does mainly formalwear and is located in a very high-rent area) to have the sleeves shortened from the wrist on a leather jacket. It's also possible to shorten sleeves from the shoulder, but it can mess with the armhole fit and is more expensive.

Thanks. I can almost always wear regular size tops and jackets because I have a strong shoulder line. However, the sleeves are usually too long. I would probably want a cropped length, too. I guess I'll save my money for the NAS!

Since there are so few petite-sized leather jackets out there, I would just keep an eye out all the time, checking online sources frequently. I doubt that many places carry petite leather jackets in-store; I'm guessing that most of these jackets are online only.

If you want to consider faux leather, i just got one from Macys that fits really well. I'm a pear shape but the style is one that would probably work on a lot of figure types. It's tapered in at the waist a little more than shown in the finds below. I liked it enough to duplicate in two colors, but haven't worn both yet. I've been looking for several years and plan to look a the real leather ones at NAS in 2017.

Chris, that is a nice one. Love the light one especially. How is the fit? I also have a faux leather one from Christopher and Banks that is a petite. I love real leather but can rarely afford it and can't often find it in petites.

Thanks. I forgot to mention that I'm looking for one that's not black. Grey or brown would be nice, though the shade would matter a lot because of the need to blend with my brown hair and with the colors in my wardrobe. I might consider faux leather if it looks and feels like real leather. It all depends on price, really.

I found this on sale at Macy's, and ordered it because I love the style, and the color should go with a lot of my clothes. I'm still on the lookout for a leather jacket, but will wait until the NAS.

A quick search on Nordstrom's site showed quite a few. I doubt there is a full range of sizes at this point but probably worth a look. As others mentioned, I got mine at NAS this year.

I most definitely want to wait for the NAS. BTW, the Nordstrom that's about an hour away from my house has closed. However, there is a wooded section about 10 minutes away from my house that is going to be developed with more shopping. I'm hoping and praying that a Nordstrom will come there. It's a long shot, but I can always dream, right? Whatever comes, I hope it's not more dept. stores with the same old stuff.

RobinF I showed a few photos of myself wearing this camel jacket at the link below I'm 5'2" and short waisted and it works really well on me. I'm wearing 12P. I can zip it and it looks good that way, although I might never actually wear it like that.

BC this jacket is definitely faux leather, I don't think anyone would be fooled into thinking it was real leather once they saw it in person, but it's nice faux leather. And on sale for $45 at the moment. No I'm not getting any commissions from Macys

Does anyone care to chime in on care for faux suede? I'm wondering why the jacket I ordered says "dry clean," when in all probability it's polyester. It's not lined, so it's not like that's the reason. I wonder if they just want to cover themselves. I've put faux suede stuff in the washing machine plenty of times; just not in the dryer.

I've had my best results at NAS...That said, really look at the jackets because I think Nordstroms puts some that are not worth buying mixed in with great ones. And sometimes the sizing is weird. And sometimes the color names are off..... Case in point -I chose one this year that is navy, and it looked navy on the photo. I took the chance to buy it online (closest Nordstroms is 100 miles away, and no trip in sight). The color name on the jacket was "teal".....I like teal, and would buy a teal jacket so I ordered it, just to see, because I liked everything else about it. It was navy, and I loved it. Several seasons ago, a "teal" one was available, I ordered it --it was too small, and very dark blue. You get the picture. Buyer beware. If you are near a very large Nordstroms, I imagine it would be easier.

BC, as far as the dry cleaning goes, sometimes there is a coating on the material of a garment that would wash off when laundered the regular way. So there might be something like that behind the dry-clean-only label.

That teal vs navy thing happened to me too with a pair of slacks I bought at an Ann Taylor store. The were navy. When I looked for them online to create a find it said teal. Go figure

I've complained on YLF about online color descriptions before. It's really irritating when you're trying to coordinate an outfit and the color description isn't accurate.
