I've reached a point in my fashion life when I can't take full pleasure in my wardrobe if I've overstretched myself financially to obtain it. This revellation has come after some experiences on the other end of the spectrum, and the anxiety generated during that time simply isn't worth it.
I've had to really flirt with the limit of this new philosophy in the past couple of months, since I needed virtually new everything to accommodate an unfortunate weight gain. Not having clothes suitable for work and play was simply not an option.
Now that I've done the major refurbishing, I still have a few wardrobe gaps left. And unfortunately they're expensive. As a Canadian I could 100% use a puffer coat. For the same reason, flat-ish boots are mandatory for days that are inclement without being actively snowy.
Which of these will I get?
None. Because I also need to replace my bras. And unfortunately I have extremely exacting standards on those particular items (if you were as busty as me, you would be too). My favourite brand in all the world is Empreinte. For those who aren't familiar with it, one of their bras would cost as much as a Lands End puffer coat, more if the coat is on sale. And while the boots and coat represent decided ggaps in my wardrobe, the lack of a perfect bra is a yawning chasm. I wear it every day. It helps my clothes fit better and allows me to feel better in them.
So for now, my shopping strategy is to *not* have fun with my fashion choices and go right back to basics instead. If we wind up having a mild winter, I'll be glad I passed on the puffer coat. The fact that I naturally run extremely warm means that item is the easiest to give up. The Munro Linda boots I'm craving are more of a wrench, as I'd have no end of use for them...But at the end of the day I'm pretty sure this approach will serve me best.
Do you guys agree or do you think I've lost the plot? How do you guys handle similar wardrobe decisions?
