The no-go List:
1) Stiff shirts (button-fronts, inc. dresses)
2) Light-coloured slacks (no beige/ tan etc)
3) Mid-to-low rise (i.e. less than 12" on me)

Progress:
#1 Am currently good on (only own blouses),
#2 I'm slowly getting there, by building up a smart casual collection of cords/ cargos/ jeans in flatteringly deep colours (in lieu of beige etc in that cheap polyester sheen) but..
#3 is a recent discovery, so it will take time to implement (e.g. realised the 11" rise on those red corduroy trousers I recently bought may be a *hair* too short to feel comfy as-is, but I can make do with a belt for now). Will slowly edit out my existing lower rises once I find better (high-rise) versions to replace them.

Fun lists! I agree with a lot of these but ones that I always want to buy but they just don't work for me:

Small prints - I am drawn to them but they are too "cute" for me
Skirts - unless I have a specific top to wear they just don't get worn
Sneakers - I try and try but they just make me feel dated, weird since I know they are very in style
High rise - Everything I like these days is high rise but they don't work for me

@RobinF Where are you finding all these high rises? Perhaps I need to go shopping with you lol - I'm still on the lookout for high-rise trousers in warm chocolate brown, dark orange, deep plum & rich teal/ petrol!

The list of things I don’t wear would be very long. (I’m trying to reinterpret recent ylf comments that I don’t have rules as a compliment, that I wear what I wear well enough that the other stuff isn’t missed. Unlikely accurate, but it sounds nice). I’m not going to try to list them all. I don’t need to remind myself not to buy things like earth colors, acrylic, big lapels, or cold shoulder tops. These are things that tempt me but then don’t get worn:

•Bold graphic patterns like stripes or polka dots. I feel oafish & clown-like in them. (Or like the elephants Vildly mentioned). I stay away from most plaid for the same reason.

•”Swingy” trapeze tops

•Sneakers for much beyond the gym

•Shirt dresses/shifts.

•Too much matching; i like to have something to break the pattern & offer an unexpected “pop” of whatever, so buying the barrette/watch band/other “extra” to match the set isn’t a good idea.

•Lately I’m bizarrely attracted to high heels. If I get any, they would be from a brand for strippers (but without the huge platform). Maybe something like https://www.yandy.com/products.....mpunk-heel If they can dance in them, surely I can walk in them, and they are generally not expensive. I got 5” heels from a stripper store one Halloween. They had maybe a 1” platform and were incredibly comfortable. But I’m slapping my own hand away. I never wore those again; where would I wear new ones?

Zaeobi - it seems everything in a current cut is high rise. I am usually looking for a mid-rise, but not skinny. Where do you see those? We'll have to trade sources

Fun idea and fun to read others' lists! Like most, I have a long list of items that don't even tempt me any more -- my eyes glaze past them in the stores, so there's no risk involved. But like Janet, I need to remind myself not to buy many dressier items, because much as I love them, they won't get worn (especially since we are still living in a pandemic and outings are restricted).

I admit I'm on Rachylou's team, too. Tempted by khakis and always, always appalled by them on me, in fact.
