Red Maddie pants, several ways: K/R?

The red Maddie pants from JCrew arrived. They fit well and I am contemplating keeping them. Right now they fit well -- the rise is on the higher side, which I like, and there is no pulling or tugging anywhere. I went with my true size (smaller of two that I move between). I am a little worried they will stretch out and bag, as pants have a tendency to do with me. They are not lined but seem not to be itchy. I do love the color but I don't necessarily need another pair of work pants, so to keep these I would have to really be committed to trying to wear non-jeans more when I am not traveling. I have precious little color in my wardrobe these dreary days and that is what is making me lean towards keep. ... What do you think? And what's your opinion of these various styling options?

PS Please forgive the hair. Currently in a self-imposed period of detente.

3: With new citron ribbed sweater, non-returnable clearance from JCrew, navy Zara loafers (I don't absolutely love this sweater, there's too much fabric for the slim fit ... but I am hoping to induce deep love by forcing myself to wear it)
4: With JCrew factory blazer and Rag& Bone lace-up booties (which I would tie, of course)
5: Inspired by Sveta: white blouse under cream Gap sweater, taupe SE booties
6: JCrew top under Tory Burch leather jacket, taupe SE booties
7: Too 2014? With JCrew sweater and Adidas kicks

Those pants look great on you, viva. And I feel your dark of winter color doldrums. In my experience, bright colored pants become a big statement piece in my wardrobe, which leans to neutrals. I have had them work and I have had them sit unworn. For me, I have to love how I feel in them and have outfits that make me happy. It seems that you are craving a bit of bright and if you are looking towards an option that allows you to swap out your jeans, you have hit it out of the park with your stylings. It comes down to your comfort and excitement for the Maddies, as they are beautiful in your outfits.

My personal favorites are 3,5,6 and sporty 7. All 7 looks are very current and work. I think they are a great find.

I really like them on you, in all stylings, and don't see any cons.

Those pants are very versatile as you've demonstrated. If you love them, you will get a lot of wear out of them so I say "keep." My favorites are 1-2, 5 and 6.

Oh my goodness, I can't believe how versatile those appear to be!

From most perspectives, I say keep. They fit well, obvioulsy they can be styled many ways within your wardrobe, etc. But if they are really to replace jeans in your casual life... will they? I'm not sure I'd ever wear red wool pants instead of jeans. Different look, durablilty, washability. I'd definitely wear them to work, or out to dinner, but for weekend bumming around? Only you know the answer to that one.

I don't know what to say. I think they look great - and like the way you've styled them. I especially have love for 6 and 7 - a LOT of love. I can't wear red pants, even though I love them on other women and think they look wonderful, I have never been able to follow through at my end. Which is why I don't know what to say. To me they look like work pants - although your sporty (2014 - haha) rendition is definitely weekend worthy. Are you concerned you won't wear them enough for work to justify keeping them?

LOVE the red pants. (Very biased, of course).

They are a great size, Viv. Perfect fluid fit to my eye. Modern, a little roomier than tailored and just gorgeously crisp. I add a belt to keep them in place. I love wearing them with flat loafers and flat booties.

Oddly - and this is a personal preference, not a general comment - I don't fancy them as much with heels or heeled booties for my own style. They somehow look more Modern and Trendy with a flat shoe (up to a one inch heel).

I agree with everyone that the fit is perfect. It would never occur to me to roll wool dress pants. It looks good in the pictures. Does it look as good IRL, and will the roll stay put? I love them for work. I love them for out to dinner with friends, maybe shopping, going to a movie, etc. I assume you're not thinking that you would grab these rather than jeans when you roll out of bed on Saturday morning to go to the grocery store?

I hope you're keeping them. I like most of the looks except the #4 blazer.

I think they do stretch a wee bit. In my case a good thing!

Also I am in semi agreement with Angie on the shoes. The full on heavier boot didn't look that great. But I think something narrow, pointy, low heeled might also work in addition to flats.

And finally, I was reading Marie Claire yesterday and they had an editorial photo of someone in red tailored pants, an army green bomber jacket and white glovelets. Of course she also had on a red bikini top. The color combo was quite nice, though.

Oooh please keep them, Viv. They are such a perfect fluid fit, and the colour is sublime. Plus, they are already proving how versatile they can be, just look at these amazing outfits;-)

Absolutely gorgeous pants, Viva! They're incredibly versatile and shows that red can be a wardrobe neutral. Very hard to pick a favorite, but #7 is amazing. Modern and fresh.

I adore them so very much, and you've styled them smashingly! 1, 3, and 6 are my favorites I actually like them with the heel (1) and think they're divine with the loafers (3). I don't care for the heavy boots at all with them (4).

Hope you'll keep them. The red is such a beautiful color and it looks like you would get a lot of wear out of them.

I've thought about ordering a pair, but afraid my curvy hips and thighs are not best suited for them.

They look like the fit perfectly but you have to really love the red or you won't wear them, so it really depends on that. I, like lisap, can't or won't wear red pants.

that 6 and 7, which are so different from one another, both got such love!

Laura, re: the détente. It’s mostly a matter of not knowing
what to do with my hair, really, so I’ve sworn off the agonizing, at least temporarily.
Growing while contemplating. I’m sure a cut and color of some kind are in my
near future.

Angie: So interesting about heel height! I do love these
red pants with the Anyi Lius, but I think they look quite modern with the loafers. I will
try them with my flat silvery boots, and I will probably be on the lookout for
another pair of flats or semi-flats this spring.

Carter: I think the roll will stay put. I sometimes roll my
Vince dress pants. I really like to show some ankle, I guess.

Ummlila, I love the idea of a cargo jacket – I will have to
try mine. Sans the red bikini top.;)

After some thought and your feedback, I am going to keep
these. They fit well, they are a great
shot of color for my wardrobe, and they were on sale. I just have to make
myself wear them even when I am not traveling for work – and that may in fact
mean wearing them to the grocery store – but I think outfit #7 is totally
grocery-store worthy, don’t you? In fact, this post has inspired me to commit
to one no-jeans day a week this year. I need to inspire myself because I am
deep in the January doldrums and these jeans and that challenge may help pick
me up.

Late to the party but I'm glad to hear that you are keeping them. They certainly look like they fit well, and if they inject a wee bit of happiness into your day then they've done their job !!! My fav is #3 with the citron pullover. I love that pullover and that's likely how I'd wear the pants too. Plus I like the loafers with the pants as well. Jeez, after seeing you in your red ones, and Ummlila in the grey ones, I'm having some pants-envy (despite our cranky exchange rate...)

Hey, you look good in red pants! Looks #6 & 7 are my favorites, too--I think you found the sweet spot with that combo of red, black & gray/white--crisp & graphic. It just looks like you.

My favorite is #5. I think the citron is very nice with them too. That bright citron color would be hard for me to wear by my face. A white shirt underneath the citron or a scarf, (perhaps gray?) might help you grow to love it.

I bought some red pants just before Christmas and I'm having a blast figuring out all the fun combos they play well with. I'll try to make time to post some pics!

Whew! So glad you are keeping. These are fantastic on you. Do I need red pants? No. Do I want them now? You bet.

I especially love #6 and #7. I am with Angie on preferring a lower heel with these I think.

With the citron sweater....wear it faux semi-tucked -- that will deal with the length. That is what I do with my (longish) J. Crew cashmere "tee" and it works like a charm. I just fold and set on the belt in front and let the rest curve. To give me a curve.
