Reader, I chopped them up - YouLookFab Forum

Some of you may recall I purchased some Rag and Bone boots final sale off the site. They were described as gray, and despite reviews on other sites that said they were hard to get on, I went for it.

Well, they are not gray, they are BROWN. Not sure who decided this was gray, but I know brown when I see it, and these are brown. And they were IMPOSSIBLE to get on. The seam at the back of the heel cup was too high, so I couldn't get my foot in enough for it to slide the rest of the way. Worst of al, final sale.

I refuse to be thwarted by a pair of shoes. So I took a seam ripper to the back.

The original plan (1-3) was to velcro the sides and the tab in back, so that the tab would hide the velcro as much as possible. This would have worked if I hadn't grabbed the tab to pull the boots on - and the whole thing ripped off.

So onto plan B. You can now see the seams (4), but I can get into the boots (pics 5 and 6). Side note: these pants are giving me what I believe the Man Repeller calls a Polterwang. Men's pants are certainly an adventure.

Taking suggestions as to what to do about the "gray."

- Rag and Bone boots
- R13 men's jeans
- Enza Costa top
- Helmut Lang (new line) cord moto

I'd dye the shoes some other color. A metallic or something. As a last resort, you could always just turn them black.

I really like what you have done with the boots. I sort of like the split back effect -- makes them edgier, perhaps? Yep… those are BROWN or, at the very least, mushroom. I do not see gray at all. ROFL about "polterwang". I do not see that particular problem here and love those jeans on you. You look great! Now seeing what Diana suggested about going metallic on the boots -- think that is a fab idea.

The surface of the boots is a sort of waxed suede. Maybe a metallic layer of polish over?

IK -- metaliic polish (or shoe cream) sounds like a great idea. That would probably give the boots a subtle sheen. Is there a hidden area you could test on to see if you like the effect?

I think the metallic cream should work. I know Rae has used it on calfhair, but I'm not sure which type of dye she used specifically. Maybe she will chime in.

I am all for DIY. I used leather spray paint with good results.

You should have included a warning in your title: the sight of dismembered Rag and Bone boots may be disturbing to some readers. That said, your results are amazing. How did you attach the velcro?
I would probably just learn to love the brown, but you seem to be unstoppable so I will await updates.

That's radical but better if you can get some wear from the boots. I like the idea of leather spray paint, or maybe sponge painting with grey and silver. You might be able to get a leopard look:)

Nicole D - I sewed the velcro on by hand. When you pick out stitches in leather it leaves holes, so I just re-used them. The velcro was actually tougher to push through than the suede.

Joy - I don't know if I dare attempt a leopard look. That seems hard.

Wow! I'm amazed you did this! Still, I guess you had nothing to lose.

I 've been looking for grey boots, and pictures of tan boots keep popping up. Do they think I'm color blind?! Anyway, I think you should dye them too, if you'll like them better. Actually, if you did a grey, it would come out kind of taupe which is nice.
