Update- raincoats - YouLookFab Forum

I tried 2 different raincoats from NAS but returned both. I browsed other Nordstrom choices and added a few different styles to finds. Obviously fit is a determining factor but I would love your feedback on these...do you like any of them?

WOW! All of these arrived with one absolute winner- #1 in finds. It is so much more attractive in person than the photo! The fabric is amazing...soft and drapey and not at all "noisy" (If you know what I mean.) I love the simplicity and the slight shaping; the collar lays beautifully and adds just enough interest. It is nice enough to be worn with a cocktail dress yet would add polish to jeans. It looks just as good open as closed.

I love this coat! I wouldn't have imagined getting excited about a raincoat but I am beyond thrilled with it and would gladly wear it even if it wasn't raining!

Lovely choices.

Do you carry an umbrella? I wonder if you need a hood?

I like the babydoll style particularly. Do you need to wear a jacket under it and if so, is the top so fitted as to not fit over a jacket. The extent of fabric in the London Fog version would put me off I think.

Jane, if it is warm I would use an umbrella instead of a raincoat. And I never wear hoods or hats. Non-removable hoods are a deal breaker for me! Our winters aren't overly cold and I commute by car so it doesn't have to be super warm. I probably wouldn't use it on top of anything too bulky. And in reality I would probably wear it open more often than closed.

Carter, I like that one too, at least as the model is wearing it. I would need to see it open too. I wonder if it's too sporty? I have a more gear rain jacket so need to be able to wear this one with dressier/smart casual work outfits.

I have no comment on the styles, it really depends on what you want. However I have found a hood to be invaluable on a raincoat; there are many times when I don't have a spare hand to hold an umbrella, it's too windy to use one, or it's too much of a hassle to carry one like weaving in and out of city sidewalks or when using a small purse. I insist on having one on any raincoat I'm going to wear in real rain.

Why did you return the 2 from NAS? Fit? Material? Also, is the raincoat for work or more running around / casual. I like all 4 of these but find 3 and 4 very different in overall look and length.

I did try that one, Angie, in the red, but it wasn't me as it felt like too much going on. It was a good fit and nice quality but I didn't feel excited to wear it. Though getting excited about wearing a raincoat might be too much to ask of a simple garment!

Glory, the styles just didn't make my heart sing.

Chris, I never wear hoods. They might be practical but I just don't. And hoods just add to the ALGO vibe I wasn't loving with the trench.

Oh you are probably right Angie! Maybe I should re-try it in black because I did like the fit. But the shiny buttons, shoulder flaps (whatever they are called), the belt loops, etc just felt hectic. Maybe the London Fog just seems simpler because the details are more spread out on the longer length!

Susie- that coat has such a nice shape and simple elegance. It also feels fresh, yet classic; likely to have longevity. Am I right that the fabric has a great hand? I haven't seen it IRL, but it looks that way on the screen. Enjoy it.
