Quick outfit lab with skinnies: What top? What footwear?

These leggings are another exception to my “no brown” rule in this capsule, because I love the rich color and the damask pattern in the fabric (#13). They are as thick as pants, so I think I could wear them that way, but just the cranberry top is boring. I’m not sure about the blush either. It still has tags on, was purchased as a possible mate for those shorts (I have a ton of “lab” pix of them to put up someday when I get them cropped)

I’d like to wear clunky footwear, to balance out my top half, but I don’t think any of these boots are “it”. Do you? I know the photos are dark, but hope you can see profiles/shapes. I think the first ones make me look like an NS officer. All three pairs of boots are pictured solo at the end.

The pix with the vest are how I started the day. Now that it’s over 70 degrees, that’s over.

Also, headband as ponytail wrap: yay or nay?

I like your outfits, but I like #3 the best. I also think your boots (#11) is great for the leggings. The 'vest' look is my next choice, but you have the same weather issue as I do here in So Cal. #1 is good, but I see what you are saying, it needs something, an accessory, maybe a scarf or a neckerchief?
I'd say no to the ponytail wrap

JP, thanks! One question though—the boots in 11 are what I’m wearing in 1. In 3 I’m wearing the boots from 12. Which do you like better?

My favorite is #3 too, with #12 boots. Great bookending with the light boots and blush top. Does the vest look ok with that top too? The white top you ended up wearing is very pretty.
Headband as ponytail wrap is not my thing.

Maybe I should wear the longer top (the cream one) with the blush boots.

The heels & skinnies look better in these pix than I expected.

I liked #1 the best, followed by #3. The side views were the deciding factor- the proportions of the longer top are just a bit better to my eye. I'd try the #12 boots with the vest, to see if the combination of lighter colors works. And, also a no on the ponytail wrap.

Thanks! I’d feel much better with the vest with any of these tops, except it hit 70 at 11:00 this morning.

So I’m getting the overall message that the long top is best. Now it is just a question of with boots—tall, cowboy, or ankle or shoes.

1 is my favourite. Good visual balance with those boots. Next I like 4 and I like the loafers. Think the leggings are more jeggings, which count as pants - yes they do!

I should probably redo the first pic. In the pic, one boot is inside the pants and the other leg is the other way around.

You know, I’d like to see that boho top toughened up... moto boots, a moto jacket, something. Contrast...

That’s why I thought boots, but the tall ones are kind of...prissy, and the cowboy boots seem overdone here in suburbia.
So if I don’t have the flat boots for it and am not going to wear a jacket (you saw what temp it is, right?), how can I toughen it up?

I prefer the tucked look with the taller boots. #3-6 all work well; you could also do the light booties with the white boho top, and I quite like the boho sandally look you added later. Puffer version looks good for the morning at least My first thought was to give those pant hems a roll with that one, a little more skin would look a bit more intentionally season confused. As for adding interest to the cranberry top jewelry is your best bet, or maybe a top that has a more interesting cut (versus one that's cut like a tee) so that it adds its own. Nay vote on the pony wrap.

The sandals are what I wound up wearing (that’s why the background is different). I’ll have to try the short boots sometime soon.

I have other tops I think might work with the pants/leggings/whatevers, but they are all in the photos with the floral shorts, so instead of taking more pix, I’m going to post those and hope people will suggest which ones to try with these.

Haha. 70s is sweater weather to me. Have you got cargo pants?

But Rachylou, it was 70 long before noon! Today was comparitively cool—I kept the pants on all day without sweating too much, think the high was mid 70s. Next week there will be some highs in the 60s. Oh brrrrrr.

Eta The shirt may be toughening itself up. Two runs in three wears!

What Aida said. Maybe moto boots to toughen up the lace top and for balance. As to what you have, I think the boots in 1 are the most successful, but I like your white boots too.

Hm, my moto boots are black. I don’t see them working well here. These pants + the white top is one of the outfits I plan to wear the metallic floral boots with if I get them. Maybe I need to reconsider if they are tough enough or too dainty.

Joy, do you really see these as leggings? That’s how Soft Surroundings labeled them, but they often play fast & loose with terms for clothing items. The fabric is woven damask, heavy enough that they seem like actual pants to me.

That said, there is nothing happening on the top part of them—no pockets, belt loops, pleats or anything—so they probably are best with a long top. Also, I’m thinking through what I have with a curvy hemline, as Aida suggests.

From the title, I thought they were skinnies, not leggings. They do not fit that closely to your leg to look like leggings. What happens when you bend over in them? What will someone behind you see?

Joy, are you asking about transparency? They are entirely opaque. The last photo shows the fabric.

Those jeggings look great on you. Another fave vote for #3 and #4. But the tall boots in #1 and #2 look nice too.

A nay on the headband as ponytail wrap.
