Q about Uniqlo

Winnipeg's first Uniqlo store opened a couple of weeks ago, and it's apparently safe for a normal person to go in now , haha. I happened to be in the mall doing a return (story of my life) the day it opened and the line up was CRAZY. All the way around the upper floor of the mall. Do people not have jobs to go to? Or anything better to do? Yikes.

Anyways, I toured the store yesterday and while nothing really jumped out at me, I'm curious how the merchandise flows. Are new styles added within a season, or is it one big drop a few times a year? In other words, do I need to go back again this summer?

The store was far bigger than I imagined, and I didn't really understand the merchandising or what I was looking at - is it men's, women's or a general free for all? It was all kind of together . I'm probably not their target market, but there was a cropped boxy shirt in an interested tech fabric I liked, but I wasn't motivated enough to go stand in line. There were no collab pieces visible, other than a couple of pieces of the Uniqlo:C collection .

Here's my 2 cents.

We have two HUGE Uniqlos in Seattle that are flawlessly neat and organized. Merchandise meticulously folded and displayed to the top of high ceilings! Impressive. Two thirds of the store is women's wear, one quarter mens, and the rest is everything else - including kids, babies, stuff, and collabs. And everyone shops in all the departments! Gender and age is fluid with respect to merchandise. Staff are helpful, friendly, and constantly neatening the store - opposite to Zara, where staff are generally unhelpful, unfriendly, and disinterested in keeping things neat

Assortments change every month or so, but not a lot. Big assortment changes every two to three months.

Thank you , Angie. I did notice how tidy and carefully displayed the merch was - and appreciate that part. There was a LOT of staff around, but not a single one acknowledged me. I am now invisible . There was also a noticeable lack of the most popular sizes - which I attribute to the recent opening which must have purged their stock . Most of the women's pieces I saw were in XXS and XXL.

The Banana Republic store in the A mall in my city closed 2 weeks ago, we now have no BR’s in the city—hard to believe. I’m hoping. Crossing my fingers that a Uniqlo will take the space. Rumor has it that other stores in that section of the mall were moving or also closing so the space would be large enough

Lisa I think with careful and thoughtful consideration you’ll find that Uniqlo has a lot to offer that fits your style/fashion plan. imo they offer a great value quality proposition, with fashion forward but not over the top pieces.

Interesting!

A new Uniqlo is opening this weekend at the mall near me — a pleasant surprise, since otherwise the mall has become less and less appealing (I cruise through occasionally, as the closest public library is there). I’m thinking of stopping in on opening day, out of curiosity.

So far the biggest, nicest Uniqlo I’ve been in was in Madrid. I bought two tops and would have possibly bought more, but I was on the way to start the Camino and didn’t want to stuff my luggage fuller than it already was. The stores I’ve visited have been well organized and stocked, but I’m sure a grand opening can make things a bit hectic.

Last collab was with Cecilie Bahnsen. I went to try but it wasn’t for me. I’m not a frequent enough shoppers to know about new mech drops. I either go for a specific item or check online first. I took me a while to figure out how to shop there. If I’m interested in something online, I take a picture and go to a store. Sales people are always very helpful but you need to ask. This is a different environment, they don’t offer assistance unless asked. I actually prefer this way.

I pick up their free magazine - Lifewear, and study the mannequins in the store. I was interested in the colab with Ines de La Fresange they did a while back, and my new linen shirt is from the Clare Waight Gellar colab.

Below are my current Uniqlo holdings. I’ll probably get a new puffer at Uniqlo this fall, and would repeat the joggers in another colour.

I only purchase in person, after trying things on. Their online returns process is conveluted.
