PSA: Strange Link Behavior

A YLF reader contacted us to let us know that something strange happened to her iPad when she followed the Refinery29 link in today's link love. Refinery29 is a well known site, but out of an abundance of caution we have removed the link.

Please let us know if you saw anything odd when you followed this link, or if you see anything odd when following any other links from YLF in the future.

Just wanted to add that when I was testing I experienced a strange redirect on one occasion that I followed that link. To be on the safe side you might want to avoid visiting Refinery29 for now. I have reached out to them and I'll update here when I know more.

Funny you should mention that Greg, as the same happened to me last week, so In gave up trying to get to the website. To tell the truth, I've always found it a rather annoying website, with lots of extra links and add ons to rather iffy looking places :..

I experienced that redirect last week with the link to their site -- decided to totally stay away from them in the future.

FWIW, I get their emailed version and it's been working like normal.

Thanks for the info. I just heard back from the R29 technical team. They know about the problem and they are apparently working on it.

I followed that link from Inge's thread last week, I think it was. Definitely to Refinery29. I was using an iPad. A pop-up appeared and there was no way to get rid of it or escape it. It commandeered Safari. I certainly wasn't about to click through that thing to try to get around it! I had to reboot my iPad and clear my browsing history to get rid of it. Needless to say, I won't be visiting that site again.
