Did you ever buy something, perfect style, perfect fit, perfect fabric, goes perfectly with everything you own but you never wear it...... ? That's the tale of my Allsaints Dalby leather jacket. Minimal, blackened silver hardware, fits perfectly, construction and leather are impecable, so perfect that, of course, I had to keep it. But I don't feel fab in it. Was it the leather pulls on the pocket?....no..... Do I just not like moto's?....no, not that either. So some of you may have followed my tale of woe on the 3 madewell washed leather moto jackets, the medium was too big, the xs was too small and the small fit shoulders but was too big in the body and did not look well closed. Plus the leather, which was divinely comfortable, was so soft it did not have enough structure to feel flattering on me. So back they all went. I had had an old moto the levi's moto with the almost frock collar and black hardware that sally from already pretty had. The proportions were perfect but it had an awful formaldehyde smell and I was honestly afraid of toxicity so I passed it on. Well I finally figured it out. Like Mme Chanel said "Fashion is architecture, it's a matter of proportion." I'm 5'3" a 2-4 with long legs and arms so I don't do well with petite clothing. Too short in the sleeves, length and rise. But in this case I think the problem is I lack height in my torso and the dalby is just too long so instead of edge I feel frumpy. I even played around tucking up the hem to get a sense of would a shorter jacket work better. So I started googling cropped motos and found the allsaints elora with blacked silver hardware on poshmark which just arrived. Instead of hitting at my hip bone it hits at the waist, so it's THE perfect length for dresses and skirts, mid to high waisted jeans and pants, fit is amazing and it looks fantastic both zipped and unzipped. Shout out to Ummlila who always questions why I buy a size up from her when we are almost the same size and similar proportions. I thought of you! Jacket is perfectly fitted with room for a thin sweater cashmere/merino or tank but not a chunky jumper. But it's amazing how 2" (21" front length of the dalby to 19" on the elora) is the difference between flattering and frumpy. As Mees Van Der Rohe said, "
God is in the details!!"
