Print or solid blouson dress? (solid capsule added)

In light of Kari's recent comfort dresses post, I'm wondering if I should give the print 'test' dress a try. http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....dress-test I have moved from almost all prints to a strong majority of solids, especially in the dress department, where I did not own one solid 3 years ago. But prints do bring interest to your wardrobe, and all these colors are ones I could easily integrate with my accessories and shoes. The biggest factor I'm looking for is a day dress I can use various belts with. If you could only choose one - which dress would you pick for me?

Both dresses are beautiful, but:

1. It's the year of the Print

2. I always go for the one I can see on my body!

The only possible disadvantage of #1 is that the print appears a little dark in the photo. Did you want a distinctly summer dress? Is the photo just showing darker? Also, perhaps you have a lot of bright/light colors from your sojourn in Florida.

Thanks Shannon, and Beth Ann. Summer dresses I have aplenty! I wanted a casual day dress. Not too conservative, not too dressy, but mostly beltable and woven. If it helps, here's my dress collection at the moment.

I really like the print dress! But then I usually prefer print to solids, especially in dresses.

Follow up question: do you think tan and brown belts and shoes would work with this print?

I vote for the print. Not sure about shoes. That's too advanced for me!

I voted for the blue. The sleeves and color feel more fresh to me, and I like that color better with your belt collection. I also feel the blue will look better as a tunic if you feel like layering it when it's cooler.

Thanks for weighing in, Rae. I do sense that the blue cold shoulder is somehow more 'hip and cool' but got wrapped up in the idea of prints, prints, prints and it seems like an easy toss on and go option. I'm torn!! I do live in a sea of jeans and tees but don't mind being out of the 'norm' a bit.

Rae is right Mo - now that I look at your belt and shoe collection, those accessories will work much better with the blue. So I'm changing my vote!

Fair enough Shannon! I do have grey and black accessories, as well, but wanted my new dress to play well with both those and my tan/brown ones.

Wellllll, since you're graduating from SYC, any chance you could get both? I prefer your existing belts/shoes with the solid dress, but I also really love the way the print dress looks on you.

LOL Beth! 'Graduation' is 2 weeks away still. Just planning ahead And I can only justify one day dress this year, I'm afraid. My seasons have flip flopped from FL and now I only get 4 warm(ish) months.

As a day dress I like the print! However the blue is so pretty that I just feel like you should have it. Wouldn't it look cute with skinny jeans under it?

After seeing your dress collection, I think the solid blue would be a good choice. I love blue (is this navy?) with brown leather, and it will go great with any striped scarves or accessories and of course red, leopard print anything and your white denim jacket. It would also be beautiful with black!

Well, fashion friends . . . I think I am going to kinda b e n d the SYC rules a bit and use the found money (in a purse as I was organizing!) that covers what my tiny PayPal balance doesn't and order the solid blue dress early. I'd hate to get all excited about it and have it be sold out from under me. Now, technically I am spending money, but it is found money, so it's debatable (much like Natalie's situation) as to whether this breaks my no spending SYC rules. I'm sure the BF would see found money as some groceries or to cover my wine expenditures But, there it is. Apprehensively pushing the buy button NOW.

I am awaiting a response from the seller on a question, but mocked up a tunic possibility in the meanwhile. I think I've worn like 3 tunic outfits in my whole life, so I hope it works out as I imagine it!

And, yes, I wonder how the SYC technicalities will be considered in my household!

Once he sees you in that dress, all will be understood It's such a beautiful, rich color and the fabric looks like it has nice movement. Plus, could be good on variety of occasions - dressed up or down. The print is more of a day only dress and would've been harder to dress up imho.

You will lovely in either dress, Mo. Rae is right that the solid has a more fashion forward silhouette -- one you can certainly wear well. Go with your instincts. Hope you're starting to feel settled back in Tahoe!

Thanks for all the votes and explanations why! I am trying to assemble a 'capsule' of sorts for the ink blue worn as a tunic. This is a test, so if it doesn't work, ignore me lol.
