I just found a structured, yet knit cloche with a small brim. It leaves a gap above my hair, is flattering and not binding. I have thick hair that is a few inches above my shoulders; hat head is a problem. So far, this is my best option apart from a structured beret. Beanies and slouchies do me no favors.
