Preparing for Spring - YouLookFab Forum

Ok, now that we've actually got some sunshine here in Perth, I've busted out the ballet flats from the back of my wardrobe and am planning ahead for spring/summer. I'd love your feedback on these ideas...

1. Skinny cargoes with ditzy floral woven tops
2. Denim skinnies with nautical/military inspired tops

What kinds of jackets/cardis and shoes would be good with these? What accessories should I keep an eye out for (I currently have nearly zero accessories).

I haven't got an unlimited budget, but I'm looking to buy a couple of on-trend pieces in tops and jeans, and maybe invest in a more classic jacket. I've got a lovely stripey tee that has a nautical feel already, plus my existing black BF jacket, tan leather jacket, and my blue and grey skinnies.

So far, these are the items I've bookmarked to investigate in the stores when I get some free time:

Witchery skinny cargo in khaki or Just Jeans skinny cargo (those are really long internal links, I hope they work. If not, go to the pants menu and look for them).

Jeans West 'Victoria' floral shirt or FCUK Amelia floral or Daisy chain floral.

Any styling suggestions for these kinds of looks, or other Aussie shopping ideas are most welcome.

Oh Stringy I LOVE the idea of either of those pants with any of those tops!

I can't believe its only just warming up over there - I'm pretty much in full swing of Summer already here LOL

I think your ballet flats, or maybe even sandals would be great shoes with both types of ensembles... I don't know that the ditzy floral tops need much accessorising - but I've not owned anything like that so can't help there.

Oh and denims with stripey nautical tops scream "red beads" to me, but I'm just a little bit of a red bead fan!

Ooh, red beads is a good idea. I've been keeping my eye out for some red ballet flats, but I'm extremely picky about shoes so I've yet to buy any.

I'm so grateful that it's finally warming up. I know that by the end of December I'll be longing for overcast days and rainy nights again, but for now I'm sick of them and want my spring sunshine I need a lot of variety in my weather to be happy!

Megan, how long is your shopping ban for? I get the impression that the JJ cargoes are going to be a long-term summer season item rather than a short-time-only deal. Maybe a Christmas present for you?

I had those very same Just Jeans skinny cargos on my own list. I tried them on in the store the other day and was disappointed personally...I asked the sales guy whether they were true to size, he said yes, I tried them and WAAAY too small in my normal size. I also wasn't sure about the cut, I personally like a bit more "scrunch room". There were about 5 salespeople in the shop and no one came to help me so I wasn't bothered to try and size up, I left in disgust!

HOWEVER I recommend you stil try them.

I hadn't seen the Witchery ones, I might give those a look when I'm in Brisvegas for the YLF gathering.

Also, Dotti has some promising skinny cargos on sale for $69.95, I'd give those a whirl too (I plan to anyway!).

Oh, I like both of those cargos Stringy. You are petite, so I can see you carrying them off with aplomb.

Just be careful with the middle top (FCUK I believe), because it reminds me a bit of a maternity top so you need to be ultra sleek down on your bottom half. That said, I really like all of the tops you have selected.

I'd like to see some natural type accessories with these tops - like wooden beads, or a chunky wooden bangle. I think they would go nicely with the floral look.

Would you consider white clams, similar to what Queen Mum (Kim) is wearing in her latest WiW post? I'm thinking of going in this direction for when it is really hot. Light colours just feel so much cooler.

Ooh nice choices there Stringy (I didnt know FCUK offered online shopping - must look away now!) I am really into florals at the moment, I think they would all go well with your planned choice of the cargo skinnies. My QLD summers are too hot to consider wearing long pants most of the time but I brought this pair (in a stone color and almost full length on me) from Zara while at Barcelona airport and they seem quite cool to wear so that's what I would wear with the floral tops.

Sportsgirl have some really nice stuff at the moment, I really like this and this . I'm also looking for a pair of tan sandals or wedges/heels something like these .

I'm totalling loving the nautical & military looks too, will need to keep an eye out for maybe dresses in these styles.

Stringy you are organised!! I am also longing for summer at the moment, though I know I'll be whinging about it as soon as it starts - never pleased!! I like your idea of getting a few on-trend pieces to complement your existing wardrobe. I like the look of skinny cargoes, but also worry they'll be too hot to wear on most days. Those summery tops look nice and breezy though and I think theyd pair well with skinny cargoes or with jeans.

I'd like to get a few more breezy woven summer tops, as well as another dress or two and a black pair of work-appropriate shorts. Has anyone seen shorts come out in shops yet, or is it too early?

I know that Target & K-Mart and the like have got shorts, I think they've had them for over a month which is way too early to be even thinking about shorts. I always struggle with finding a nice pair of shorts especially anything that's on trend - they're always the little teeny short ones or the longer walk shorts which I'm not keen on either.

Witchery has heaps of shorts that are about mid length. There are heaps everywhere really since shorts of all kinds are a really on trend item for this year.

Pretty sure we will find some on our YLF shopping trip. I've seen all types from short shorts to mid thigh tailored pairs.
