Power of My People Linen

Has anyone bought anything from Power of My People? Their shirts look so lovely. I "discovered" them through Alyssa Beltempo a Canadian vlogger. I would like to buy a white shirt in Proper Fit, but I wasn't sure if I could stand having them be oversized.

Also, I'm afraid of the linen turning yellow.

I think the quality of linen is quite good and they're clothes are made in Canada! They ship to all of North America.

I don’t know the brand but want to reassure you - white linen doesn’t turn yellow. I have a top and a shirt from Gap that I bought in 2015 and both are perfectly white.

Yes, I bought a linen shirt from them last year, Proper Fit in terra cotta, and I love it. The linen is a substantial weight, and washes really well. I ordered the white first but wanted a looser fit, and of course the larger size was sold out by then. As I recall, the white was more of an off white, leaning to ivory. Their customer service is very good and the exchange went smoothly, so I could recommend them wholeheartedly!

As long as you don't use chlorine bleach on it, linen won't yellow. If you want to keep it bright white, use Oxiclean (sodium percarbonate).

I've only heard good things about Power of My People and would love to try one of their shirts someday.

Ok, thanks for the ideas and knowledge. Maybe it was the sunscreen that changed the colour. It made me sad.

I have found that some deodorants will make white clothing yellow, could that have been it?

I have a cotton shirt from POMP. Quality fabric and workmanship and washes beautifully. I can only imagine the linen is to the same high standard.

Sunscreen will stain white clothes yellow so be aware of that.

Cat2 I'm not sure. It may have been the sunscreen I was using. I think I was using Woolite to wash it because I was afraid of damaging the fibers, and I did leave it to soak in Oxyclean and then put it out on the line in the sun to try to lighten it.

I enjoy Alyssa too!

That spray sunscreen is terrible for yellowing clothes. The filmy type. I find lotion ones cause less damage to clothing - but are terrible on cars!!

I have had white linen shirts over many summers. And I am a stickler for sunscreen and I have never had a problem with yellowing them. I mainly get mine from JJill and Gap.

I just bought a white linen top about a month ago for this summer, and as missvee said, it is more ivory than optic white. But it's substantial and beautiful. I found the brand through Stylebee, another Canadian blogger.

Quick review: I ordered the beautiful brown plaid shirt that Style Fan modelled so nicely for us. Verdict: beautiful shirt but not for me. The cut is very straight - on my shape it is a little too big in the shoulders, perfect in the bust, wide through the torso (I would prefer a bit of tailoring to hint at a waist), and just fits in the hips. The arms are very generously cut which is nice because in middle age I have larger arms and it's become a major fit issue. That said, they are almost too big! But all this was actually fairly obvious from the photos had I analyzed a bit more. They don't have a more fitted cut of shirt, only a more oversized one. So clearly they are not aiming for a tailored style which is fine. The fabric is thick and wouldn't be 4 season for me as they claim, maybe useful for cool nights camping or something, but definitely more of a F/W item for me.
I am trying to shop better quality, more selectively and from Canadian made brands, so this was part of the effort. I got a Cyber week discount that compensated for the $10 shipping, and returns are free within Canada. I don't regret the $10 to try this item, being more open to shipping/returns costs is part of the deal for the brands I want to try.
