Here's where I'm at... A guy friend told me yesterday it looks intentional. The movie theatre incident threw me for a loop but now I'm over it. Next appointment is to get rid of the reddish tones - the more grey it gets, the more I'm edging up the cut too.

If you feel this is "aging" for reasons other than "all grey is aging" (because I get that already!), do tell!

Love it Una! Definitely looks intentional!

I'm still coloring my roots. My hair is thin and tends to frizz - so, going gray (not white/not silver) would certainly be a different experience and a different outcome than what you have been going through! If I could figure out a way to make my gray hair look fashionable/intentional - as well as healthy/shiny - I would consider it. Otherwise, I'm going to have to stick with coloring my roots every 4 weeks. Bummer!

Una - your hair looks SMASHING! I agree that it looks intentional and like a style choice. No one wants it to look like you just get to your stylist in time - lol! And not aging at all.

My hair has been salt-n-pepper now for about 4-5 years and I have no intention of ever coloring it again - other than my fun little cranberry piece. Here's a closet up from my recent pixie reveal.

I colored my hair back to black to see the state of my grey. (It was hard to tell with all of my highlights and different shades of brown.) what I learned is my grey is sparse right now. I have a dozen or so visible on the top and some more on the sides (when I pull my hair back.) I think I'm going to need to color until I get more because these just stick straight out. I don't think it will be long until I have enough grey to transition but for the next year or so, I'm going to keep coloring or highlighting.
ETA: your hair is just smashing, Una! I LOVE it. It looks totally intentional and fab!

It looks AH-Mazing!

I don't think it's aging, and I'm not just saying that because I have to :). It may not be "younging" but there comes a time when it's ok to be how old and who you are. And that confidence is VERY flattering. I honestly do think that on a lot of women, trying to look young is what is aging.

I found these. Your hair is beautiful. My mother went through the salt and pepper and it looked great. She wore lots of black/white tweed then. My natural color was a lighter brown with some reddish tones. It first turned taupe and looked more blonde than grey and is gradually getting more white.

Una, the hair looks fabulous! You make me covet 'greying'! Elizabeth, your transition is astounding. I have to say you look pretty young now that all your hair is white.....marvelous!

Una, your hair looks fab. Teenage boys can be so dumb!

This photo was taken in February in Istanbul. My hair might look a little funky because it was so cold we had to wear a hat or hood all the time. My hair stylist keeps cutting my hair shorter and shorter. It's almost completely silver. I love it and will never go back.

Una, your hair the way it is is beautiful. It suits your face and your hair still looks soft yet sophisticated with that cut. I would not change a thing. I don't know what happened in the movie theatre...;)

Okay...as I've mentioned, I'm in the process. I last dyed the roots in April (I think?) . In May I got some highlights to decrease the contrast. It's a work in progress. On Wednesday I'm getting it cut, so that should clean it up.
Photo #1 is from the beginning of May, photos 2 & 3 are from today.

So far, I'm excited. Haven't noticed it aging me.

I think your grey hair looks great. I hope mine looks as good when I start going grey. I certainly don't think you look old, but I have to admit that with grey/silver hair, it's unlikely that anyone will think you're 10 years younger than you actually are (as you mentioned used to happen to you).

Ah, how could I have left Elizabeth out of my comment on Angie's blog post? One of the most amazing hair transformations I've seen here -- I love your new hair, Elizabeth!

Ok, here's what I'm dealing with. This photo was taken last week, right before a hair appointment, so you can see a significant amount of root growth (dang, my hair grows fast especially in summer!). Eh, it doesn't horrify me, but I am in no rush to see that dull grey all over my entire head.

I had a hard time finding a decent photo of my hair in natural light.

#1 is 1995. The ends are highlighted, but the bangs are my natural hair. I had a few grays and I wish now I'd left it alone.

#2 1999. I'm having "color the gray," and so far it was close to natural.

#3 March 2015. Hairdresser talked me into highlights to mix in with the gray as it grew. I turned very blonde and hated it for me. So I got the highlights only every 4 months.

#4 Last highlights at end of May. It is now more gray than blonde--the natural color is darker than I had imagined. I've decided no more highlights, although with three weddings coming up beginning in early September, I may chicken out and do it one more time.

I have already added picture on your other thread, but here it is again. I am also adding one from 2-3 years ago when I had it short during the transition. I am thinking of going short again, don't feel edgy enough with my current cut.

I love how your hair is looking Una! I don't think you could tell in any of the photos I have because my real color is really light blonde and my grey is sort of white so it looks like highlights. At least that's how it looks to me. I'm happy not doing actual highlights anymore even though I often just used hydrogen peroxide and I think it's pretty safe (but maybe a little drying on hair). I like my hair best when I've let it go for 2 days without washing and the natural oils make the white "highlights" stand out more. Especially if I wear white or light colored tops. I agree with needing some color to the skin for it to look best and not too washed out or pale.

I'm so glad I let my hair go gray. I just got tired of the constant maintenance. Now that I have fibromyalgia, I really have no interest in coloring my hair. Interestingly enough, I get compliments all the time.

Great thread, Una. Your hair looks sensational. And I'm loving seeing everyone's grey--and every one of you who did before/after looks more fab with the grey.

Here's mine--looks more blond than grey because of the UV yellowing I mentioned in my other thread. I have an appt next week for a consult to see if I want to add dark extensions (can't go the colouring route as it brasses out really fast).
