Possible outfit: trying to stay warm

I am trying to wear this dress I thrifted back in November. It is too cold to wear it as a dress, so I thought of trying it over pants. Right now it is so cold, just about anything is acceptable in offices. However, looking at it,I think it shortens my legs too much. What do you think?

Shooties: Women's Clarks Class Burke in brown
Pants: Talbot
Blouse: Kookai
Clutch: Browns
Belt: Mango

Any other suggestions for this dress?

I really like the three layers of white (blouse, dress and belt.) I think I'd prefer it over slimmer slacks, if you have any. And your purse is GORGEOUS!

Echoing Nadya -- I think it would work with slimmer pants or leggings and boots. I also wonder about the photo angle, though - you seem a bit foreshortened in this one.

I understand about the cold. It is BITTER now here - the temperature isn't too bad but the damp seems to sink to the bones. I was cold today skating in my down puffer layered over a modal/cotton turtleneck and a wool turtleneck!

I think belted higher with skinnier bottoms would look good!

Hope you keep warm....our power was out all afternoon and just came on as we were deciding if we needed to go stay with friends for the night as it was down to 16C in the house.

Ceit, you confirm what I was suspecting. The low waist of this dress is its problem. It has an indentation in the pattern, covered by my belt, which makes it impossible to cinch it higher.
It's supposed to have this "1920" feel that was on trend in 2012, but now it only has a "My hips are too low" feel.
I am so sorry that you have to suffer like this in your house! That is serious cold inside any place. This week our gaz tank had a minor malfunction and we were not heated for a few hours. It came down to 18 and I was freezing!

Nadya, thank you! I bought this clutch before going on posting knowing I would need something nice for evening functions, and I did! I used it again and again... Now that I am back home I barely ever take it out. But obviously I should! I think layering over these particular pants may not be the best idea either.

Suz, legging and boots, must try it. I am always afraid to look like Robin Hood when wearing leggings, boots and a large belt. But I'll give this a try and post. I am so sorry that you still felt cold with all the coverage. You are better than me, I didn't even venture outside!

late to the party - I think the dress works layered over pants but the pants need to be slim legged.

I would suggest a similar bottom too like a thick pair of opaque leggings (or 2) or something skinny. The rest of your outfit is pretty and crisp looking.

I agree with the other lasses about the lengths not quite working here, but I just wanted to chime in and say I really love this colour combo on you, Khris: modern classic and soft and crisp at the same time.

I can third the skinny approach. I think volume on top and bottom tends to make us disappear. One needs to be slender. But I love the idea and the color combination
