Peep Toes & Panty Hose - YouLookFab Forum

My feeling is that if it's a true peep toe, like 1 and 2 below, then panty hose or tights are fine. If it's more of an open toe with several toes showing (photo 3), I'd skip the panty hose for sure, although tights might still be an option.

Sorry to disagree with MaryK but in Canada definately wear hose!

If he shoe is delicate like in number three of MaryK's post I wouldn't wear tights but in the other two I would.

It is never fashionable or stylish to wear goosebumps as big as the Rocky Mountains.

At one time peep toes happened to be the only shoes that fit my feet and in the winter I wore them inside when I took my boots off.

Yes, it's fine. Just make sure you tuck the seam under your toes!

Didn't DKNY make hosiery with open toes? If they still do, that might be an option. . .

I had a pair and it was hard work to get the leg color to match my (really pale) bare toes color. But I much prefer having hosiery inside most shoes and I prefer the feel of hosiery when crossing my legs, etc.

I too think of peep toes as a summery/warm weather style - but maybe that's because when it's cool here it's also rainy, and I'd rather not get my toes soaked walking into a puddle! The idea of wearing hose with them doesn't thrill me, but I think as long as there's not an obvious seam you are acceptable.

I'm glad someone asked this question-- I was wondering it myself the other day. It doesn't get quite so cold down here in Texas, but I just bought a pair of open-toed booties and was wondering how I was going to wear tights with them in January?!

MaryK and Jenava I'm with you on this one but can you tell me do you think you have to wear nude hose with a peep toe or do you think black opaques or fishnets would be ok too. I want to try this but haven't as I'm lacking a little confidence.

I'm Canadian too, and I'm afraid my answer is no to peep toes/open toes with anything but bare feet. I wear mine all through September, but after that it's too cold, so it's closed toe season after that. Usually you can start wearing peep toes/no hose again by May.

ETA sorry, I feel bad being such a downer! I love the look of peep toes too -- I just really, really don't like how they look with hose! I suppose if the peep toe was really small and the hose were really opaque, it might be OK.

Oh, no...you can wear any hose with peep-toes! (see attached - red tights, blue sandals)

Of course, snow and rain would limit this look, but if you have cool, dry weather it shouldn't stop you.

sorry, Jenava, it's still not my favourite look. Although I will admit that a bright, opaque colour (like your red tights) works way better than a sheer neutral (which, with peep toes, screams out "grandma"). I also see that you're wearing very un-granny-esque blue shoes with your tights, which also suggests "young and stylish" rather than "elderly and out of touch".

I LOVE the look of textured hose with peep toes. Edgy. Big thumbs up from me.

Unlike Elisabeth, I think it's a great look sported with neutral shoes and hose too. It's not a slam dunk combination though - so you need to be picky with the hose and shoes.

I've avoided buying peep toes for the same reason, but I'm going to try branching out a bit this fall/winter and have bought some peep toes that I think I can wear with tights. Of course in Seattle, a big reason I don't wear peep toes much in the fall/winter is because of the rain!

Deborah, I don't wear nude hose at all any more, except for nude fishnets. So yeah, I'd wear black or colored tights or fishnets with a peep-toe. Though not with an open tie that shows several toes. Well, I'd wear fishnets with an open toe but not tights or other hose.

It sounds like this is just one of those things that comes down to personal preference. It's not an absolute fashion disaster, but could so easily be one. It's a bit like socks with high-heeled sandals: when I visualize it in my head, it looks appalling, but when I finally saw someone do it in real life, I was amazed at how cute and chic she looked. But she was very young, very tall and very pretty. And all the other elements in her outfit shouted "style!", so it worked.
