Thanks, everyone!
Synne- the white shirt and jeans is such a classic look, and I'm so flattered it reminds you of Carolyn Besette. I think I want a longer/larger white shirt for a bit more of a dramatic feel, and will try this one with a blazer.
Irina- I went by the Everlane size chart, read the reviews (especially convenient that I could filter by height and weight), picked a size and hoped for the best. I'm 5'6", and most often wear a US8 in pants/trousers. These are a 28 in the jeans and a 6 in the barrel leg pants- so, one size smaller than my norm, but actually my "real" size, based on the Everlane size chart. I also prefer to have very little ease in the waist, relative to how most patterns are cut, so for pants/jeans, I go primarily by hip measurement.
Suz- yes, it's the tights! I don't have any pets, but somehow tights feel "fussy" to wear them around the house all day. And, I still want to feel fully "dressed" head to toe, even though no one can see my lower half on Zoom.
CarolS: I'm cutting the tags on the jeans! So glad everyone else likes them.
Firecracker- Thanks for your thoughts on the length. I always feel lost on what looks current and works with footwear.
rachylou- thanks for the support!
Zaeobi- I definitely have a high tolerance for a non-stretchy waistband. And my wardrobe is in a place where slow replacement of worn out items, with a few updates makes sense. The barrel pants are close enough that if I were having laundry bottlenecks, I'd keep them.
Sal- Yes! I hadn't thought about the slipper factor, but I think you're onto something. I was trying to "make do" with the pants that I had last winter, but was getting so bored with a few outfits on repeat, so for my second winter of lots of days working from home, it seemed time to make some additions.
