Well, there is a theory that rich people are more beautiful. This theory goes that, wealthy people pro-create either with other wealthy people OR with poor but beautiful people, so over time their genes are just better looking. so, maybe he meant you were hot? (-:

I agree it's a strange comment. But I would just take it as a compliment that you are very stylish and well-put together! Don't let it bother you. Not like you're going to change the way you dress because of these stranger's comments, right?

Yay for Teah!

Sounds like you got the class bit sorted, but I wanted to also chime in and say it could be also related to your gorgeous hair and skin! I had that comment once, and apparently it was because my skin was "too perfect looking" (whatever :p ).

Congrats to Teah

You have received many wise replies. You should take it as a compliment since whether it was said out of resentment or boredom, clearly these young guys saw something "classy" (and gorgeous) in your appearance. Of course it is disconcerting as well, but mainly because there are these young fellows out with nothing better to do.

You know, Genava may have a point. Wealthy people tend to take better care of their skin, hair and nails too.

Thank you for the little pep talk, I think Jonesy may be onto something, why would two young men who would be typically at work view someone dressed for the office as having money?

The area in which I live really is quite unusual, we live in small semi rural town 20 miles outside of a major city, yet our small town has a well known fashion & textile college at it's heart meaning there is a real diversity of styles on offer.

Jenava, Isabel and Aida, I take your point about skin and hair, my curls were well behaved yesterday but my skin is suffering a bad breakout.

I love hearing about how this term would be translated in your area, it really fascinates me. Old versus new money, reverse snobbery, status, class, it really is a minefield.

Ooh, horrid, I can see why it made you feel uncomfortable. I wonder if it's because you are gorgeous and well-dressed that those young men thought you were 'too good' for round there? I'm not making much sense, but like you'd got above yourself? I don't know what it's like where you live, but there are areas round here where that might be the case - people would think you were too posh LOL.

I think you dealt with it perfectly, and well done to Teah.

I like the comment that said it might be new slang for "You look like a million bucks!" or in the UK I guess it would be a million pounds!

eh eh! Man.. I bet he saw the faux fur vest and the PU bag and tought it was real leather and fur!
It was a compliment! It only means that a person can dress cheap and look like a million bucks!
