Outfit Lab: Balloon Jeans

I received the balloon jeans on March 15. Eleven days ago. The tags are still on. I am not sure whether to keep them. I did an outfit lab today and am still on the fence. My biggest struggle is footwear. I am limited to what I can wear on my feet. My top part is not a problem.

I think they jeans are very flattering. I prefer them slightly with the sandals, but both looks work to my. Do you have a chelsea boot or combat-style boot? Those would work too in the right season.

I’m with Carol in liking the sandals option best, and wondering if an ankle covering boot (or even a high top sneaker) would work for colder weather. It’s either show some skin or close the gap with this style and length of jeans. FWIW, you wear the silhouette well.

Thanks, Carol. One of the things I am looking for is Chelsea boots or combat boots. I prefer them with sandals too. I do have a pair of Chelsea boots. They are on their last legs, so I am babying them.
It takes me ages to find footwear.

You would look good in any kind of jeans! These look good on you. I prefer the sandals, too. I also like the green jacket. Your makeup looks gorgeous.

Fun fact: I ordered some balloon jeans awhile ago and they looked SO AWFUL I couldn’t get them off fast enough.

They’re fantastic. The sneakers ‘hide’ the pants a little bit, but the match is so nice with the topper, I wouldn’t sweat it.

Winner winner, the jeans look amazing on you. I like how you can wear a tucked top and the jacket/top hitting at the high hip area. But let’s move on/down because you’ve got that part sorted.
I had trouble with winter footwear until I paired my jeans up with the high shafted boots in finds below. For warmer weather I think sandals ( like you’ve done) or a running type shoe with lower vamp allowing more skin between hem and shoe. Wonder if you need to turn the hem up just a smidge?

Merwoman, you have made my day! I love those boots. I might try them next year. I do have some Saute Mouton for winter. I have to wear orthopedic-type footwear. Birks sneakers would work, but they are always sold out. I have some Finn Comfort sneakers, but they need cleaning up, and they are not cute.
We might be going to Montreal, the footwear capital of Canada, in April. I will look there for something.

Wonderfully styled. Both footwear options work well!

I wear my own balloon/barrel jeans with everything. Boots, sneakers, hi-tops and loafers.

I think they look great, although a bit distorted at this camera angle! They work with both sandals and sneakers to my eye.

I think they look great. I really love them with the cropped jacket in #3. I think your footwear works fine. But they are a different silhouette so maybe you need to give yourself time to adjust to them.

These totally work for you. I’d find them tricky since I don’t tuck but you look fab. I prefer them with the sandals, so I think a lower vamp shoe would work. Of course you could experiment with high-shaft booties in colder weather, too.

The camera angle is distorted, but I can't seem to fix it without making myself tiny. I will have to work on this. I don't know why that happened—new phone.
Merwoman, when I was looking at Pinterest, I noticed some people rolled up their balloon jeans. I might try that.
Brooklyn, I think you are right. It is a new silhouette. I need to play with it a bit.

Well I’m totally biased because I love this shape of jeans. I think the flattery aspect comes from the waist definition, and your belt helps highlight your trim waist! I would be thrilled if barrel jeans looked liked this on me (they don’t, but I’m keeping them anyway because I love them, just in case anyone thinks I’m suggesting only certain figures can wear this style). Also appreciate that you styled them with the Oboz hiking shoes as I did lemming you and pick up a pair on amazon.ca when the price came back down to earth. I was thinking of them as ‘gear’ for hiking but I will totally try them for city walks now, which will hugely extend their usefulness.

Sal, thank you! I have gotten a lot of use out of the cropped jacket. I found it on a sales rack in Florida many years ago. I will probably wear them with sandals.

They look wonderful both ways! Love the sneaker/jacket pairing, and the sandals and belt are a great complement too. I like to wear my balloon-ish jeans with chelseas, combat boots, hi top sneakers, pretty much anything!

I love them. I'm a huge fan of balloon leg jeans and trousers and have too many to count, so there is that, but these jeans look fabulous on you. Please keep. I prefer the sandals with them, but also like the sneaks. Like LaPed, I wear mine with all sorts of footwear.
