I thought I would share a post with some outerwear new and potential purchases.

The first 2 photos are a new to me D&G jacket. Great fit, Very happy. From Oxfam. Great value.

The second 2 photos are of a navy coat. I am not convinced by it, because I could be in coat overload territory! Navy, neat closures. Oxfam also, brand is Modern Rarity. Great value. Doesn't fit over a jacket. Might go back.

Photo 5 is of teal 3/4 coat, February purchase, not had a huge amount of wear. Good colour but slightly too intense. Irritates me that it doesn't really go with my moss green bag in 5, nor fit over a jacket.

Photo 6, Jigsaw, potential purchase, might go back. £££ but colour is amazing. deep grey / navy. Fits over a jacket.

Photo 7. black boots I normally wear on the commute; photo 8 fedora I sometimes wear. Doesn't go with teal coat, Does go with potential navy grey coat. Photo 9, lovely Ally Cappellino bag, that is super for my commute. May be not quite polished enough for my work look but fits my notebooks in with ease. Pity it isn't gold hardware.

I am back in the office full time (though choice, WFH isn't for me; I am super careful on commute and in office). Office is slightly more casual than it has been. I don't really like leaving my jackets in the office, but can do with ease, in a nice wardrobe, but would prefer not. Hence need to have coats that fit over jackets. I have not yet worn jeans to the office yet, but if this continues, it might happen.

So outerwear is an important part of my wardrobe.

Gosh aren’t you lucky to be near such a good charity shop!
l have read your comments and looked at the photos.If it were me that teal coat would win hands down,the shape and the colour are spot on but you really need a coat that goes over a jacket so I wouldn’t settle for one that doesn’t no matter how nice as you are always going to be frustrated by that fact.
I can’t imagine how that fastening in the modern rarity coat would look on,l think that I would need to see these other coats on to form a judgement.
Big fan of the boots and bag though!

#6 sounds best from these thoughts! Fits over jackets, good over your skirts and dresses, versatile colour, fab with trousers and jeans, you love it!

As Cardiff Girl says, I'd need to see them on to form a better opinion. Lots of good potential.

Hello there and thank you CG, the Oxfam is online - really good service and free returns. Fab.

The teal is good (enough) and has been useful. Strong colour though. I will try the MR one on tomorrow and post a pic, if I am looking ok :)!! Glad you like the boots and bag. Boots are super comfy, and I have found new pleasure in wool socks and tights.

Yes, Covid is on the rise in the UK. A tough winter ahead, for sure.

Since I moved to a cooler climate I've found that having a nice outerwear collection is really important. I like the items you've chosen and think the navy coat looks really interesting.

Agree that outwear is a major piece of your wardrobe for you! It seems that the one that fits over your jackets and is an amazing color is the clear winner. I do love the teal - do you wear a jacket every day to work? Boots and fedora are good too!

Outerwear is especially important if you commute.

From the look on the hangers, I love all of these! So I would really need to see them as you like or hope to wear them to form an opinion about what should stay and what should go. It does sound as if you have clear feelings about each and ultimately I find it best to listen to my feelings in these cases, because typically you will reach for what you love, not what you merely think is "ok."

I wonder, Jane, since I believe you are quite short similar to me ( I am between 5 foot 1 and 5 foot 2), if the 2 longer coats would sort of “drown” you? My favourite coat is a shortish swing coat, which doesn’t overwhelm me. I realise that your climate is colder and a long rail commute.
I love the look of the teal, but it is sad it doesn’t fit well over the jackets. If it did, I would suggest a new fedora to match it, rather than a new coat!

Angie, what wise thoughts! GOOD prediction! I like the idea, and need to overcome the issue for me of the white sole (because, it seems tricky to bookend). I am thinking a soft grey and white striped scarf might do the trick. I love my white Reeboks for the commute in the summer.

Thank you Bonnie. Such true words! The navy has a super neat fastening and the fabric is gorgeous. I did try to take a photo of me wearing it, I looked pretty tired and somehow I didn't have the energy to own it and share it!

Thank you Shevia. I tend to wear one perhaps 3 days in 5. Or at least have one that I wear into the office. Maybe moving into the winter months, I might not wear one so much, as it is slightly more casual now.

Thank you Suz. I did take some photos yesterday wearing them and honestly, it looked like I hadn't slept in a month (which I have!). So gave up!

Thank you Jenni. Wise words indeed. Yes, it I s possible for longer coats to drown me and have too much darn fabric! I am going to need to have the two long coats shortened for them to work. The teal coat does fit over a smart black cardigan which is perfect. A teal fedora would be lovely! And a swing coat sounds a good idea. I haven't tried such a style before but did try to find a cape that worked this year. Maybe a cape is just too Harry Potter... I will have a look at swing coats next time around, thank you for the idea!

Your comments make me think #6 is the winner. As you need to wear coats for months, I would have at least two work coats. One neutral and another in a brighter colour. I always love how you look in caramel and warm tones or olive green.

Such a shame that 3-4 doesn’t fit over jackets. I love the special closure, it’s really unique. But well, I wholeheartedly support getting a coat that fits over jackets to get more wear out of them.

For those that you cannot wear over other jackets, is there enough room to layer enough thinner pieces under them? You have a nice collection! Let's see them on!

Great finds! My local Oxfam has a good range as well, I am planning to shop more at my local charity shops next year. I particularly like the jacket, very smart and great design!

I agree that outwear is important, I have been living in the UK for 20 years and yet I am always suprised at the British weather. Layering is the best solution with this weather and it can look very smart.

I think WFH can offer some challenges, some people really like and others struggle for a variety of reasons. Stay safe in the journey to work!

I’m curious about outerwear as a part of your outfits. How often do you change your coat/jacket/other wrap, and your accessories (which in winter can truly be necessities)? Do they form much of your closet? I have 3 or 4 coats I could wear in the winter, but seem to have settled into just one last year. Same with scarves—own 20, wore 1.

The coat that fits over jackets is a winner. I love the look of it, too. Re teal and moss green: I think they could look good together. What about a scarf with those two colors? Just a thought.

Hi Nemosmom, thank you so much. It is really super to have a choice. Yes, there is sufficient room to layer thin things underneath, and a good thing would be to find my Uniqlo very thin black puffy. Seems somehow to have disappeared and it was super.

Thank you Minaminu, the jacket is super easy to wear, and is a great fit. Oxfam is a great charity shop, they really understand their market and products. It is great service that there are return too. Yes, WFH has opened lots of different views. I work in construction / property development and we have managed to keep all our large sites going. which has been really good. So, I like to be near the sites.

Thank you FI, pretty much most days! I change my coat depending on what I am wearing, what the day has ahead and what the weather is like. I used to change my bags daily too, but this particular bag, has been really good. Understated and entirely practical. Fits in my 2 A4 notebooks, bullet journal, make up bag, pencil case, wallet. Showerproof.

My head is kind of in coat overload! I am sending back the Modern Rarity one. It will find a nicer home with someone else.

On the Jigsaw one, DH really liked, but it is packed in its bag again - the button not fitting at my waist is a slight irritant and I think that if I buy it on line, I can get 15% off. So it may need to go back to a B&M shop and then be bought on line. If I keep it that is! Indecision reigns.

Nice outerwear and I too love teal + moss! I think it's worth sizing up on coats if you wear jackets a lot in winter. Personally I find cardis much more comfortable to layer with coats, but of course they're much more casual.

Love #6. It has a very timeless style, something that is perennially classic and chic. Bonus points for it fitting over a jacket!
