My name really has nothing to do with my hair color. My husband uses the name "MrBlonde". It is the name of an assassin in one of his favorite movies. So I thought it would be fun to have my name be the female version of that name. My real name is Joy.

Velma is an old nickname (from Scooby Doo!) and part of my roller derby "skate name."

In another lifetime I used to teach sailing. Gybe is the British spelling of jibe, which is to turn downwind. Back in the early days of the internet I had to choose a login. It's unique and easy to remember.

I'm somewhat of a sci-fi nut. When I first wanted to join another forum some years back, I had just watched the series Firefly and loved it. No-one else had the name, and it somewhat echoed my real name Farzana. I usually try to stay firefly when I register somewhere new, but if it's already taken, I'm fireflydancer, since dancing is such a big part of my life.

I do tend to keep a distance when I post on the internet, which is why I use an alias. However I like the way Angie and other forum members address posters by their real names on YLF; it seems to reinforce the friendly and inclusive nature of the site. If anyone would like to call me Farzana instead of firefly, go right ahead

This has been a fun thread to read! Jones was my mom's last name, so Jonesy was an easy go-to name for me.

Michelle is my real name, which I decided to use after seeing how open most people seemed to be here. The story of my name is mildly amusing. My mom is French-Canadian and wanted a name that her relatives wouldn't mangle in their pronunciation, IN her eyes, that ruled out all names ending in A, since they'd likely get pronounced as though they ended in "uh." As it happened, their short list of names for me had only four options, Laura, Andrea, Sylvia and Michelle. The choice became obvious.
As a sequel, my brother got named Mike four years later, which means our names have identical pronunciations in French.

Ljubica is another real name, it means violet in Croatian.
I used to lurk a lot here before signing in, and I noticed that people end up using their real names instead of nicks, so I thought 'Why bother with a nick then?'. And besides, my name sounds exotic enough on its own.

Astrid is my real name, too. Like Ljubica I read a bit before I signed in and noticed how many people are using their real names. I have always a hard time thinking up a nick anyway so I decided to be lazy! And I didn't see another Astrid around, probably because most here are English native speakers and it's not even a common name here.

Mine is just my name My folks named me after the Verdi opera, but the name is Arab. In Arabic (my family is Middle Eastern) it roughly means "one who travels" or "one who returns from traveling."

My forum name is ,my name. I don't say "real name" because that's not what it says on my driver's license and that's not how I sign my checks, but the only time anybody uses my "real" name is at the doctor's office. (I've only heard my husband use my real name twice - at our wedding and during the rehearsal). People are generally pretty shocked when they find out my real name because a. it's not even close to Dusty and b. it really never "fit" me.

My mom used to yell at me all the time for not dusting my room (why *that* is what she decided to be picky about, I have no idea, since it wasn't like the rest of my room was all neat and tidy) and one time instead of saying "Gina dust your room" it came out "Gina dusty" and it kind of stuck.

Mine is pretty simple. I'm a SAHM (mostly) and my kids are the most important part of my life, so to describe myself to others mumtojessandluke seemed appropriate. User names conjure up ideas of who we are, and I thought that this reflects who I am as a person quite well at the moment. Just a mum.

Mine is a nickname... has nothing to do with my real name. In the beginning DH used to affectionately call me Krishni (?). But when he was happiest he would add a little -doo at the end, as in doo-da-lee-da-doo, or "Shubee doo". Then I became officially full-time Krishni-doo (he must have become happier).

I write the doo as "doux", means sweet in French.

Nevertheless no matter how doux the story, I am aware of how complicated it looks in English! Ah, well.

My name is boring: I'm often called Rosie b/c Rosanna seems to long or too many syllables for most people to remember, but online I spell it literally "rose + e". I also get called Anna too (especially by little kids). I was named after both my grandmothers (no wonder why my parents only got boys after me, used up all the baba names). I come up with other names online sometimes, but thought I'd use my real-ish name here.

Katie - Not my real name, although my family and friends call me by this name, so it has special significance for me. In fact, I answer to Kate or Katie equally with my real name! Pea - A play on the letter P for reasons I'm not going to disclose but also has meaning! (Gosh that sounds secretive, doesn't it?! ;-))
