Oh Maya, you have my warm thoughts for healing for your father, and for courage and hope to stay constant in your own heart. I know of this condition, for my own mother was diagnosed about 6 weeks ago by her gerontologist. Luckily, after 4 weeks of Prednisone, she was completely restored to her former health and the doctor discontinued her medication for the condition.

It is a very tough situation...not knowing whether your loved one will get better or decline. I want to wish him a speedy recovery and am compelled to say, what a gift he has, with such a wonderful daughter as you!

Maya I am so sorry to her about your father. I will be praying for the both of you. God Bless.

I am very sorry Maya. I hope your dad finds a treatment that works for him very soon.

I am so sorry to read this Maya
I am sending my love and encouragement to you, and prayers for your dad.

So sorry to hear that your dad is not well. SO's dad also has polymyalgia rheumatica, and it has fortunately not morphed into anything more dire, but I know it can certainly be unpleasant. If it's any comfort, for the most part it doesn't interfere much with his activities, though it sounds like your dad is in a more acute stage at the moment.

You and your family will be in my thoughts.

Ok this at the very fringes of my medical knowledge. There is an ultrasound test for temporal arteritis. I learned about it in school but have never performed it. My supervisor performs them when they come to my lab. It requires a very skilled vascular technologist (someone who performs ultrasound of the veins and arteries).

The temporal artery is a branch off the external carotid artery. It courses along the temple.
Wishing you all the best. I know nothing of the other condition.

Thank you ladies. Your good vibes must have helped because he went back to work today. Still not feeling great, but at least able to go about life as usual.

Oh my gosh, this is very scary. I'm glad you are getting lot's of support and knowledge here.
I'm glad to hear that your dad is feeling well enough to go back to work.

Somehow I missed this earlier! I'm sorry your family is going through this, Maya! Glad to hear your dad is on the mend a bit today!

I'm so sorry about your Dad's condition and glad he's feeling better. May he continue to improve each day.

Dearest Maya, I know how scary it is to see your parents this way for the first time. My parents are (I am assuming) quite a bit older than yours. Both Mom and Dad have had scary health episodes. Mom has lived with (please note, I say live with not suffered from) Polymyalgia rheumatica for many years. The early part of the diagnosis was the most difficult. It took time to get her medication at the right level for her. Over the years she has had good times and bad and different medication needs at different times. Our family's experience is that the treatment and course of this illness is incredibly unique with each person that has it. For what it's worth, Mom is currently feeling fab and in need of no medication. Lots of healing thoughts for Dad, Strength for you and Mom, and wisdom for his doctors.

Maya, I'm late with this, but best wishes for you and your dad. My parents are elderly and ailing too, so I know what it's like. Good luck and strength to you all.

So sorry you're going through this - My thoughts are with you and you're family.

Maya, so sorry to hear about your dad - sending love and healing thoughts for him and your family.

I hope your Dad will be doing better soon, Maya! Even if you are moving out, at least you will still be close by to lend a helping hand when it is called for.

Maya, I have missed this one before, it was a hectic weekend and a lot of catching up, sorry. I hope your dad gets better soon, I'm thinking of both of you and sending lots of positive thoughts.
