OT: Adventures in Baking

Good Morning!

This has nothing to do with fashion, but I wanted to share. I had a fantastic time in the kitchen the other day baking, and out came these lovelies:

The first three photos are the cake pops, and the last two are pie pops (I got the idea from Bakerella).

I gave the cake pops little twist tie bows, so they're sort of fashion related.

P.S. I made a few extras to bring to the San Jose gathering tomorrow.

These are all the rage at graduation open houses but I have only seen them done by professional bakers. Yours are fabulous! What talent!

Wow Melissa, you are a true baking artist! Those look pretty and very delicious.

I love baking as well, but usually engage in making some elaborate cakes, which never look even half as pretty.

You all are the sweetest! Thanks for all the kind words. Baking definitely makes me happy, and these are great because they're small.

Tanya, I also love making cake, but my cake frosting and decorating skills are not good. This is why I love pie so much--it's about the taste and texture, not the decorating finesse. Maybe it's time for me to sign up for Piping 101.

Maya, I think I hear something...yep, that IS the pops calling out and saying "We're free! But it'll take us a while to make it to the East Coast."

Khris, they are super-fun to make. Depending on how much time one wants to put in, they can be made much more simply and quickly by buying pre-made crust and filling.

Sveta, they are for sure meant for eating! I will always choose edibility over looks in baked goods. For instance, there are ways I could have made the edges of the pie pops less puffy and more defined, but I would have had to sacrifice some of the flakiness of the crust to do it, so I didn't.

Melissa, you're incredible! What a Renaissance woman you are, and those pops are beautiful. I was feeling sorry about having to miss out on the San Jose gathering tomorrow, but if you're bringing those pops, I'm glad I'll be sidestepping the risk of extra poundage!
