Ops, I did it again... ETA: Update

After the tomato red Boden pumps that needed several days of breaking in I promised myself not to do the same again. Alas, I couldn't resist these beauties. They're metallic, sparkly, festive, comfy block heel and t-strap. What's not to love? Well, now I'm walking around in wet feet and folded socks to hopefully make them wearable to the annual summer party at work on Thursday. Have you ever done something similar?

ETA update: I wore them yesterday with sheer hose for about 4 hours, mostly standing. It worked really well and I did not get any blisters or soreness. The high block heel is so great compared to thinner heels. However, they are still a bit tight and I'll work on stretching them a little bit more.

Is the sock to break in the leather, or to widen the shoe?

The sock is wet to soften the leather and widen the toe box. And avoid blisters.

I've never tried that. I have a pretty narrow foot, but softening the leather would be helpful on some shoes. I try not to buy ones that aren't immediately comfortable, but it's impossible to tell ahead of time if walking a long period will cause unforeseen rubbing or blisters.

They look fun and festive.

Those shoes are so pretty, I hope you can break them in on time for the party.
I have done my share of buying pretty shoes that are not very comfortable. I am trying to stay away from that at this point but I cannot blame you for buying your party shoes.

Thank you all! They are actually quite comfortable (not as sneaks, of course), except for the point where the toe box meet the sole on the outer side. I love how the block heel it makes the heel height stable and takes off weight from the toe ball.

Angie - didn't you make a post on a shoe/potato hack? I've searched, but I can't find it.

Harmonica, go to the blog page and put in "stretching shoes" in the search box. Be sure that the time is set at "all time" when your search comes up empty for 1 year.

I love your shoes and think that these particular ones are entirely worth the effort. I have not tried wet socks to soften the shoe box, but it sounds like a good idea. I often will wear shoes for a few hours at home before trying to wear them for a more extended time or an event with lots of walking and standing.

You are all so understanding! I don't have any similar shoes and in that respect they fill a wardrobe hole for special occasions. I think they are classic enough to have longevity, even though they are sparkly.

Bijou - that's a great strategy to soften shoes. Sometime I wear my shoes at work (office job) to break them in. I'll mostly sit by my desk, but also walk a bit to go to the library, get a cup of coffee or to meat others.

Well, the toe box does look too narrow for your feet - but you knew that. And yeah, I've bought several pairs of vintage shoes in the past that didn't fit, but were high quality, pretty, and some glamourous luxe name was written on the sole...irresistible Learned my lesson because I could never make them work.

I pass on shoes that don't pass the "wear for several hours of walking" test even if I have to do it around the house. Like what Bijou said. Just not worth the money IMHO if they are not comfortable. However I'll use foot glide, moleskin pads, and other stuff to help with rubbing. Good luck, those shoes are gorgeous!
