Yes. If I don't I quickly become overwhelmed by the size of my wardrobe. I do take longer for shoes than clothes, mostly because shoes cost me more and are hardest for me to fit and find comfortable. So getting rid of shoes is not easy to do. And I do let items sit for a season unworn. I don't expect my entire wardrobe to be in high use all of the time, but I do plan for 80% of it to be used, so I can't let too many things sit unworn. Because I keep my wardrobe smaller in number, and I like change, I end up refreshing and updating fairly often.

I follow this strictly. I have a very small wardrobe although my natural inclination is to purchase new things whenever I fancy, which is clearly not a good plan. Like others have suggested, I have a set number of hangers in my closet. ( I have 10.) I also have one small dresser drawer for workout clothes and 1 drawer for loungewear. If anything new is going to fit, something old has to go out to make way. This works well for me.

Gigi and The Cat, Thanks for the encouragement on H&M. I can always use socks, accessories, etc. So, I am determined to follow thru with these 2 bags of clothes. I have been so faithful trying to get them together, I must give them one last shot and take them in.

Gigi and unfrumped, I am going to put more effort into shopping for HEWI's and lists, rather than random shopping as I am so inclined to do.

Lisa, it sounds like you have your wardrobe in order and shopping organized where you truly enjoy it. I so envy you.

Jazzy Dance, You work magic. It is difficult for me to picture having only 10 hangers (because you choose that number) and buy new things whenever you fancy. I do one-half of that myself--I buy new things when I want too, but sure don't get by with 10 hangers. I am trying to get better about impulse shopping and by being a member of YLF has helped a lot.

Bridgie-No envy necessary, it's taken me YEARS to get my wardrobe to it's current state. You'll get there too, it just may take longer than you want it too.

Jazzy dance, I am always so amazed by this concept. I often wear five layers on top in the winter before counting a coat!

And, between my laundry and my husband's, I like to have a critical mass of red-orange, blackish, whitish, gray/beige and blue to wash together for efficient laundry purposes. I get terrible results from mixing colors in the washer. Do you dry clean or hand wash everything? Or only wear one color?

3Style,

I have a uniform for work that consists of workout pants and a t-shirt, and as I was given only 2 of each, I do laundry every other day. (I’m too cheap to spend my own money on a work uniform!) When I’m at home I wear comfy loungies, and I’m a real homebody who prefers to stay in most of the time. So my needs for ‘real’ clothing are very little!

I am also uncomfortable in layers so when I do go out I just wear a dress of varying weights depending on the season. I have 4 for winter and 5 for summer, some leggings and a denim jacket... that’s all I’ve got. I don’t wear jeans or trousers, my squishy bits are super uncomfortable in pants.

I actually do wash everything all together, but I wash on cold, so maybe that’s why I haven’t had any discoloration? Or maybe i just haven’t noticed.

I have 4 coats/jackets I keep in my hall closet that I don’t count...

I’m sure if I worked a regular job or was less hermity I’d have a need for more clothing! I used to buy tons of stuff for some aspirational lifestyle I thought I would someday have, but that got expensive and overwhelming, and I found minimizing my choices therapeutic.

Jazzy dance, I'm curious about what is the fabric from which your winter dresses are made. My two warmer dresses are 100% rayon and I have been too afraid of messing them up to dare to put them in the washer. I only have dry cleaned them. I do regularly wash fabric blended items which are rayon with spandex, but pure rayon is often more touchy.

3 Style,

All of my dresses are some sort of cotton spandex or cotton wool blend... I buy most of my dresses from Title Nine, which markets to sporty type ladies who they presume can’t be bothered to hand wash or dry clean. I don’t think they sell anything that can’t be washed.

I also took a cue from Angie years ago and wash everything on the ‘hand wash’ setting in my washer too.

Thanks again Jazzy dance,
The Title Nine catalog arrives unsolicited a few times a year for the last few years and I don't think I ever noticed that they had dresses.... Likewise I have had a few knit woolen hand-me-down dresses which were a stretchy clingy mess. So this is a genre of garments that I didn't even know existed. My local REI has sporty summer dresses but not winter ones. I think that they mostly sell coats during the colder months. I will put them on my list for 2019! I'm going to buy a coat this November and limit myself to undergarments and shoes for 2018.
