I used to wear lipstick in a similar color in my goth days. It just seems like a burgundy variation to me, though I guess that means I already have a skirt in the new "it" color!

I don't mind it as a colour at all. On my computer it just looks like a burgundy. Would be great in shoes and bags.

This color is well represented on the deep or dark autumn (warm) color palettes. I quickly went through some of my fashion and color pins and found some items I've saved over the years. I like these more complex colors, I think they are visually interesting compared to what I think of as the 'straight-out-of-the-tube' colors, so I'm happy and hope to be seeing it.

I do well with muted colors, but really didn't see much of the radiant orchid OR emerald green.

Based on the pics posted by Claudia, I can see myself wearing it. I really like it.

I like it

LOL at Vivian's comment - yep - great lipsticks too

Seconding Viva. When I first saw this I was disappointed because I can't wear anything with any brown in it, ever. But on looking closely at it-- it looks very close to the "Bistro Burgundy" lip colour (Cover Girl) that I identified, years ago, after much trial and error, as "my" nude equivalent (I need contrast). Then they went and discontinued it, and my stockpile has almost tun out. I have searched for a replacement, but everything has ended up too red/ too purple/ too brown/ too bright. That same muddiness that detracts in clothing colours is an asset for matching skin tones. So, here's hoping another batch of this colour shows up in lipsticks.

It is to brown for me as pictures but retailers often adjust the colors so I will see what comes out in the stores. If it makes it to stores.

The Jezebel article made me laugh out loud! But everyone who is speculating about makeup colors... I think you're right. This is going to translate beautifully to makeup. And of course, Sephora didn't waste any time in tempting me. I looked at the Naked 3 palette in person, and it's beautiful.

It looks very pretty and wearable. It's not for me though, I like my colors bright and pure. Any mutedness and it stays in the store.

I like it for home dec and in general. It's too warm-toned for me to wear, though.

Very close to my personal pick, but a little bit chalky... *I do declare*

It looks like the dreaded 'Burnt Sienna' crayon.

I have learned that Pantone's colour selections mean very little in the retail world. Designers barely take notice and retailers stock what they think will sell.

As for the shade itself - sure - it's going to work for those who like muted and moody colours. Personally, I'm not drawn to the colour, but I can see the appeal for others.

Terracotta is what scared me off. I'm good with a deep or rich dark red/burgundy/wine/maroon etc, but an earthy undertone is not going to work for me.

But how well would this suit Jean/Greenglove?
